stewz
Finally found a local Audi specialist who after much haggling has quoted me a price for the following.... CAMBELT SERVICE WATER PUMP NEW DISCS AND PADS(BREMBO) £1250 plus the VAT What do you chaps think, is this reasonable??
RogerXTP
Blimey Stew! That sounds dear to me. However - I'm the newest 8 owner on this (fantastic) site so others may have more knowledge. Why do you need the Brembos?
PaulW
Can you break out the prices for the cambelt and water pump and another price for the disc and pads?

Figure11
As a Guide, I have A4Audi in Glasgow quoting me approx £500 inc VAT for the Cambelt, Watrerpump and thermostat. Here's a link to brake disks and pads which are easily a DIY job. Someone on here will give you a hand I'm sure. http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefi...SubType=Grooved http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefi...SubType=Grooved http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefi...SubType=Uprated http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/framefi...SubType=Uprated If you go the Black Diamond route you'll pay less than £500 with discount. So it could be done for a grand all in. Mike

stewz
[ QUOTE ] There is a handy service / price guide at http://www.audi-specialists.co.uk/service.htm Alan [/ QUOTE ] Looking at the guide price on here for a 4.2 Quattro sport, it seems more expensive than the quote i,ve had when you tot it up! The Brakes quoted are Brembos , because that's what the guy uses. I don't know much about service costs as this will be my first time for any work on the car, but i do know that West london Audi wanted over 2 grand for the same jobs! I did an apprentiship as a mechanic many moons ago at HR owen working on some very expensive motors, so i'm not unfamiliar with the procedures for changing discs and pads etc. It's really just like a lot of us, i don't like getting my hands dirty anymore, i suppose i should do , looking at the prices that Audi want to charge, but all you here about are specialist tools and specialist jobs etc,etc... I will keep looking for a while to see if i can cut these costs down but i relly want somewhere local to go to rather than saving a buck, but having to travel 100 miles to do so! IceBlue8
I gave up with the Audi stealers a few years ago when I had an A6. I'd suspected for a while that they were doing a poor job, but then my brakes failed a couple of hundred miles after a major service because of rotten pipes. And the dealer didn't give a stuff - just said nothing would stand up in court. When I wrote to the dealer, they replied saying that as my car wasn't getting any younger, I should consider taking it elsewhere! So I took it to a local garage that came recommended. I've just had a full service and belt change (including tensioner, etc) on my A8 2.8 for about £500. Can't say who the stealer is - but it's the official Audi stealer in Glasgow. In my opinion, the cars are great but the service is c**p.
shadow8
STEW: I recommend Dean Hill as well. Just today he has done my cambelt water pump and thermostat on the S8. Quoted me £700 last August and kept to it today. I know it's a lotta money and it hurts parting with it but the "peace of mind" is great.
