dogbucket
Booked mine in for the first service and it has flagged as being due a software update. I know the 'normal' GTI had an update, so I wonder what issue they are trying to fix? As the Ed30 allegedly makes a bit more power than VW claim I hope they are not taking that away! dogbucket
Thanks for the info If anybody else is interested we think it has mistakenly been added to the list for the 'normal' GTI update being an early car. Hopefully once they plug it in they will see the error.

winrya
[ QUOTE ] As the Ed30 allegedly makes a bit more power than VW claim I hope they are not taking that away! [/ QUOTE ] Its a common vw thing at the mo (average) standard gti 214bhp edition 30 244bhp 1.4 tsi (170) 190bhp I'm told its because vw have to quote the power based on 95 ron unleaded, but v power (98 and above which the engines were designed for) are giving the higher figures. I suppose this ties into the slowest 0-60 time i've seen tested of 6.7 secs with average between 6.5-6.7 for standard gti's (not the quoted 7.2) I also read the bugatti veyron is actually running 1100bhp not a 1000

The one I do know about (Focus ST) seems to be similarly afflicted - std cars that aren't wrong 'uns are making anywhere between 225 and nearly 250 bhp. Not surprising I suppose given that it was supposedly turned down to protect the driveshafts. Looks like in both cases the nags are nearly as strong as the legendary 276 Japanese ones As for the Bug, in theory it is well over 2000 IIRC but the sheer weight of cooling systems knocks that down to the 1100 or so that guarantees 1000ps in all weather conditions and with all sensible fuels. dogbucket
Ok, well picked the car up and the job sheet says they did 24K6 software update. Service bod therefore says it was done end of. Did a VAGCOM scan when I got home and cannot find any note of 24K6 in the various modules. So I suspect they are saying it was done so they can get the warranty money from VW for the labour (job sheet also lists a recall sticker under parts, but I cannot find it anywhere on the car) Not that I am that bothered to take it further, but strange none the less... RedRobin
....24K6 is quite an old (last Summer) update done on the GTI. Any remapped Mk5 Golf will need switching to stock before that particular update. This is best practice for VW updates anyway.
