bowie
Hi all, the 2yr pan european warranty on my GTi is up at the end of the month and I am unsure whether or not to put the 3rd year VW warranty on it. I will probably sell the car within the next few months anyway so am wondering should I spend the money putting it on or just sell it as it is. Do you think it will be more saleable with the warranty ? I suppose there are people that are probably not bothered about a warranty but then again the car is still quite new and some would expect it to still have it. VW have quoted me £439 for this btw. Anyone had the same dilemma ? Chris.
petsy
try www.surfandprotect.co.uk or www.warrantydirect.co.uk for alternative quotes.
bowie
Tried warranty direct and they came in at £240. Thing is you hear so many rumours about aftermarket warranties with them blaming almost everything on wear and tear you wonder should you stick with the vw one in the hope it'll be a safer bet ? mikemod
I have used Warranty direct before and have had no problems. Broke a spring in my MKIV GTI and it was replaced. My Wife had her Alternator fail a couple of months ago and that was replaced with no problems. Repair cost from dealer was £260 When my car is three years old in May I will probably go with them for the next year if I don't change the car. TwoSheds
I'm with you bowie. I think it will be much easier to sell with a genuine VW warranty despite the extra cost. I personally would not be attracted by the aftermarket jobs especially when laying out a not inconsiderable amount buying the car. Despite mikemods good experience rightly or wrongly I think this may be a widespread perception with aftermarket versions.
RedRobin
....For a moment, due to mikemod's post about a 4th warranty year being possible, I was quite tempted but then the worm wriggled in my brain about fitting a limited slip diff after my warranty expires! johnnysenna
I'm looking forward to my import's 2 year warranty running out so I can get a remap. That's a much better way of spending your 400+ quid.
ludwig
Chris, I'm in exactly the same boat. I contacted WD about a year ago just out of interest. They did not know what a "DSG" was! That was enough to put me off if ever I should need to claim on it. I agree with the others i.e. pay the extra £200 or so for a VW backed warranty. Less than about 2% of initial car outlay. Not that much in those terms, right? Of course, as we know, the third year third party warranty is nothing like as comprehensive as the 2 year manufacturer warranty. Please let us know what you decide to do. ludwig
bowie
Decided to go with the VW warranty on thursday gone. £439 for the unlimited mileage policy. I asked was it a named part warranty and the advisor said no, its an extension of the one you have currently ! Can't see it being as comprehensive as the manufacturers though. Chris. ludwig
chris, thanks for this update. I'd better find another £439 before the end of March - oh dear <...its an extension of the one you have currently !> Hmmm... I don't think it is an extension of the manufacturers warranty, but if that is what he said ......... ok? I suppose he was from the Sales side of the business? It would be interesting to find out what the Warranty Manger had to say about the cover. I'll ask mine when I next take the car in. ludwig
