Rachel
Wow! Steve Jobs licensing technology from Microsoft! With the 3G hardware and the demonstrated v2.0 software it is going to be the pocket Internet/smartphone of choice - esp. with all the corporate requested functionality: Microsoft Exchange integration via Active sync, giving push e-mail/contacts/calendars. Not just WiFi - but Cisco IPSEC VPN built in, WPA2/802.1x supplicants, Certificate management. Complete remote wipe - very slick... The rumours are that Oz will see these new iPhones late this year (Oct./Nov.), and I've started saving! Better than a Blackberry, much better than a Windows Mobile smartphone, and the applications that will come will be eye-popping. If you're curious - go watch the keynote from this week off the link on the front page of the Apple website.
drpellypo
I wonder whether this was a deliberate move by Apple. Create a device that's not quite right, then release a new version a year later that's perfect. A bit like Windows NT not accepting USB!

Ritey
Can't blame them for making money and good product better, I'm interested to find out what there upgrade options are going to be, currently if you have an 8gb and want the 16 they'll let you renew your 18 months from the point you switch but you still have to buy the handset again, I can't see this happening when the 3g phone hits our shores! [/ QUOTE ] Isnt' this is how Apple have always been though, even more so than other companies? Every time I've bought something from them within a matter of months something better comes out. Now I expect better products to always come along, but I'd like the ones I buy to be current for more than a quarter (year)!
wyliss
Are we expecting a 3G version this side of summer ? Just got the Macbook and awaiting this version ?

drpellypo
I've avoided getting an i[hone specifically because it had no push facilities, and no 3g. When we do get one that does, I'll be purchasing!
Sponge
I'd quite like one of the new ones, but being locked to one network is a major put-off.
Rachel
Just buy an unlocked one in France when you next go over.
drpellypo
Or just unlock it? Surely it's gotta be possible. I hacked my ipod touch in about ten minutes.
