Craigieboy
Once again chaps my thoughts are drifting to replacing the .:R with something different, last year I chased away such thoughts with milltek catbacks, sprint booster, haldex, arb's, strut braces, short shift kit and cold air intake. My recent trip snowboarding (200mile round trip) drained half the fuel tank without being overly loud on the pedal so I think thats set me thinking again. If I was to trade in the R I'd be looking for a straight swap with another car, problem is that the only car currently attracting me is the gti ed 30, which I somehow doubt would be going for around 12-13k, the other option would be to grow up and move onto a shogun or something along those lines, but I dont fancy any £300+ road tax bills. Any suggestions on how to chase away such silly trade in ideas would be ace, esp if it doesnt involve throwing anymore cash at her, or ideas on what's out there with similar spec/cost

mlhj83
The Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 Turbo with quattro is one of Audi's hidden gems. Even if you aren't into the tuning scene, it's good to know that this particular A3 has a lot of tuning potential without the need to shell out a lot of money should you feel the need to liven the car up a bit in future. Craigieboy
Skynet, no I've still got awhile to go yet on payments, but its a personal loan and not directly linked to the car. - thats why I was looking at a direct swap option, as paying extra towards new car isnt really affordable. Mlhi83, I had a look at the audi options but they were closer to the 20k mark for a few years old model. Plus my neighbour has an a3 and to say he's an arse is an understatement. I think its just the appeal of a new toy, with more posts cropping up on here with folk moving along. The .:R really is a heavy lump, which is why I think a gti(ed30) is appealing, but I'm not sure how it'd feel giving up the awd, then theres the sound difference of course. mlhj83
Once you have got used to AWD, you are likely to miss it if you revert to a high powered FWD, unless you go for a RWD which can make it up by giving you lots of tail-happy fun.

v6tas
[ QUOTE ] ....I dont fancy any £300+ road tax bills. [/ QUOTE ] Well your tax bill will be £205 this year mate so not that much difference really. Reasons to keep your .:R 1. You wont get anything of that spec that will actually save you money. 2. The soundtrack 3. The smile you get from driving it 4. Its limited edition 5. The car tax is pretty cheap for what its got under the bonnet 6. The sadness you will feel letting it go I could go on but you get my drift !
oldboy1
A change is always in the back of your mind. The best thing you can do is test drive the cars you're seriously interested in... and then, imediately jump back in the R and drive it. It always works for me. The chunky, solid feel, the lusty V6, the grunt, need I go on!
Maxyboy
i drove a 330d individual spec today and loved it. ok, its not nerly the same fun as the R but i am seriously tempted. going back for another look tomorrow to discuss price. they have admitted there is a deal to be done as there are so many demo and ex demo cars on site. its a year old and is priced £10k less than new price, with hopefully more to come. what do i do?? ps, i still love the R, but the beemer does look the part. and with the spec, i feel it will still stand out from the crowd. Craigieboy
See, its temptations like that which is bugging me maxyboy, plus I went onto the gti forum (dont ask me why) and see how much the ed30 is being raved about. But I took the R out tonight for a spin along back roads, the grin factor is still there as you throw it around bends with the milltek rumbling away as you go. Whats keeping it in my garage is pretty much all of tspars points, 3,4&6 especially
Maxyboy
your right. i think i will def miss it if it does go.its been one of the best cars i've ever owned. but, i aslo think the bm i am looking at does look very classy, and different. but is that just me hankering after a change. what i do know is that whenever i have changed a car, i have never regretted it. whatever i do. i'm sure it will result in me losing thousands of my hard earned! N3WOB
Well I've driven a few cars over the last few years, some of them rather nice. Net result I'm now on my 3rd mark 4 and a paper round to pay for it.
Craigieboy
I've not even got 24k on the clock yet and as she's a weekend/night toy it'll stay reasonably low while I have her (yes my .:R is a she). A new toy is always nice, but when the newness wore off i think I'd be missing the v6 etc etc etc and end up losing money to get back into an .:R and get it up to the same spec as i've currently got. 'You dont know what you've got til its gone' seems to be loudly going through the head now.
Riz
Craig... dont do it! You have a very good example there with low miles...... I had to sell mine and I miss it alot.... wish I never parted with it but had no choice You will miss it when it gone and I dont care what people say about the new R32 or S3 etc.... the MK4 R32 is one mean looking hatch and in my opinion still the best looking. I hope you keep it... Riz
