gman
After an Artic overtook wildly on outside lane, spitting up gravel as it went wide a couple of weeks ago I have now spotted a 4 inch crack on the passenger top left hand side of the windscreen. Seems deep, all the way though. Any know if this can be repaired, how much - for repair and for new?
Sven
Nope, sorry... The repairs are only for very small chips actually, and then you need to get there quick as well. If you wait too long it doesn't work so well anymore. And mind you, it's never 'invisible' anyway. But with a 4 inch crack, you'll need to replace it... Colin M
You need to repair it pronto. The bonded windscreen forms part of the structural integrity of the car (it's all part of the cocoon you sit in). A crack has seriously weakened the structure. It will expand with every bump in the road you drive over as the car body flexes. Make sure you specify an original Audi part when you call the screen people else they will bung a Pilkington copy in. Prhim
Check your insurance. My S3 had a similar encounter with a stone thrown up on the motorway (thank God it missed the paintwork); but I had the screen replaced for £50 and no loss of NCD.
