It looks like Audi updated their Audi Assist cover to European wide some time last year, and certainly Newer vehciles come with this as standard.

Does anyone know if it covers you for repatriation in the event of an accident?

(I have tried calling, but cannot connect from where I am.)

Thanks!

I had to use them last year when I was in Paris - they referred me to the local Audi garage, who didn't have the part it needed (the reverse light switch in the gearbox had cracked, so it was leaking oil).

I know for sure that Porsche Assistance covers repatriating the car (it takes about a week though EEK2.GIF ) as a mate killed his 996 Turbo last year at Spa and the car eventually arrived back in the UK just over a week later.

Let us know when you find out for sure 169144-ok.gif

I fell foul of this in 2005 as I assumed I was covered Europe-wide but apparently should have told them I was going abroad (I had already done this for insurance etc. but breakdown didn't occur to me as I was used to Europe-wide RAC). I then had to organise my own retrieval (via TSN beerchug.gif).

I was kicking myself but it sounds as if what they offered wouldn't be much different to what happened anyway (the car ended up at a local French Audi garage but via a local breakdown service called by the French motorway police).

So if the above is true then I would seriously consider getting separate cover next time that offers retrieval. One thing is that continental Audi places are NOT necessarily like shiny Audi centres here, they're just the local garage with certification from some major brands to work on their cars.

I paid to have mine retrieved from an 'Audi garage' rather than fixed there, and TomK's mate (who retrieved) said he didn't much like the look of place it ended up in - all sorts of cars jumbled in together, blokes in greasy overalls chainsmoking while working inside and underneath them, etc. etc..

Update – I managed to call Audi Assist to confirm the following this morning.

The Audi assist scheme is now run by the RAC, so you get exactly the same cover as they would offer, including Europe.

In the UK this includes roadside assistance if you break down, or transport of your vehicle to a UK Audi centre.

In Europe it is exactly the same, including transport to a dedicated Audi service centre or full repatriation to the UK.

Hire cars are provided when necessary.

It also covers accidents…..

So if you are unlucky enough to have an accident abroad, they will take it to the nearest Audi centre for damage assessment and if necessary repatriate the vehicle for you.

There are various telephone numbers to call for specific countries.

All for free.*

*(Obviously you pay for this when you first purchase the vehicle!)

Having seen the new Audi centres in France, Germany and Sweden, I would be happy for my vehicle to go to one of them for a quick fix, although I would still want it fully checked by a UK centre on my return.
