steelwind101
HiHi, Just wondered what your thoughts were on a car i have been offered. The car is 04 top of range 307 2.0 SE Automatic. Leathers, parking sensors the lot. I sold my other Pug and will use this as the station run, airport parking and shopping getter (3k per yr max). So the car was up for a decent price at a Peugeot main dealer (who has repaied accident damage on previous cars i have owned). The car was out of my budget for what i wanted and but he said its been there for a month and people are walking away. They already knocked a grand of the price and know my budget and said make me an offer. But be aware the car has a just under 12k on the clock and 3 previous owners. Dealers says the car is fine, yrs warreny etc etc. Everyone has said go for it, get the AA in to check it out and see if the guy think its genuine 12K. I know the 307 was plauged with a milometer issue that it dident keep constant check of the miles but the book says it came in for the problem to be corrected (if it needed it) after its first yr. Any thoughts let me know! I know its a 307 etc. but to be honest on my milage, at this price and having had a few Pugs before im not worried. UNless this is dodge motor! 962C
Do you not suspect three people have got fed up of it and doen no miles as its been in the dealers all the time!! The 307 is widely regarded as being a lemon. To be honest I'm surprised to see Peugeot have carried the basis achitecture over into the 308 rather than go for a completely new design platform-up, 206-207 style. Whilst that doesn't necessary mean much - Citroen have just done it with the C5 and the new model is apparently a million times better - the visual link is still there. Don't get me wrong - I have nothing against Peugeots [or Citroens] but I think the 307 is best avoided.
steelwind101
LOl have felt the same way and i share the feelings with the 307. Really liked the C4 for similar money but less features. This is a new problem for me in away, as i often buy more premium, ex-CC cars at the Auctions but there isnt much for budget and prices are not cheap enough. I have often felt with the BMW and Volvos that easier enough for me to sell on. But yeah, i dont want to be 12 months later, 15k on the clock 4 owners and its worth even less then what im offering them for it! In all honesty i wanted the Megentis for these duties after sorting one out for my friend. Alas, the dealer already told me no more deals after the last one....sad! quattroman777
Both my brothers have been driving 307's since 2005. Two 1.4 petrols, 2.0 HDI and a 1.6 HDI all bought new. All 4 have been faultless. A phonecall to the previous owners might clear up matters

[/ QUOTE ] If you have the same feelings with the 307, why are you considering one! There are enough makes and models out there to pick one you like, and you are clearly in a position to sit, wait, research and find one going cheap rather than rush in and pay retail. The C4 is funky, a newer design, more reliable, yet still pocket money cheap second hand. Where does the C4 come in JD? You are right to think resale. That number of owners on such a new car would put me off. Most people would just assume ex rental perhaps. As above, if I *HAD* to buy a 307, I'd be looking for a one owner. That way the current owner specced it and has more likely cared for it from day one. There are enough 307s to be picky........ but as we have just established, you don't have admitted you don't really want a 307 anyway!
cruiser647
12K miles, 3 owners? I wouldn't bother - not even at a bargain price. Irrelevant of the make/model.

[/ QUOTE ] I told the dealer I wanted to speak to him or the deal was off. Normally I wouldn’t bother but when I went to pick up the A6 the badge on the boot lid was crooked and the dealer couldn’t explain it. I was worried it had been rear ended. If he has nothing to hide he should hand it over without a fuss. If you want to do it on the qt ask for the V5, the HPI check, service history etc, get the address and then a quick call to directory enquires. bullett
sounds like it's a lemon to me, 3 owners and 12k miles in 3-4 years? No thanks unless it is a major bargin and has a full warrenty.
steelwind101
1yr Lion Used (what ever Peugeot used is called these days) price £5600. Was £7995 then £6995 after much talk and weeks wait still not gone i said if we are talking £5500 then i might be intreasted. Manager calls back and says £5600 is the lowsest. Book value (for what its worth, what you should pay, minus leathers and parking sensors @ 20K MI) is £6459. Geoff
edo
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. £5.5k is your budget - what are the other requirments, I'm sure the TSN massive can find you a better (non French IMHO) car for the money - wheerabouts in the country are you? I think it's probably a lemon.
330dcoupe
The family have had a 307SW for 3 years now - and it's been a gem. Yes, not the greatest thing on 4 wheels - but it does what it was made to do, superbly: 5 people, all their luggage and comfort.
theduisbergkid
Peugeots are crap, for those who disagree look at the JD Power survey results. Steelwind, my guess is that yours will be cheap because it has had a major fault that the dealer cannot rectify, so the owner has p/xed it back, that would explain high owners/low mileage/bargain price. If you want to PM me the reg, I'll get it checked with a mate who runs a chain of Pug garages. Oh, he agrees they have crap quality, and he has worked there 10+ years.... Buy something else. steelwind101
Hihi, Thanks for the comment guys, i acutally cant seem to speak with the guy at the dealers this morning, how annoying. Like a few others on here i have a good few trouble free Peugeots. With regards something else; i was looking for a cheap for running around, shopping, car parking, airports. Previously this was done by my late 97 pug 106 Auto in near concours condition apart from a small part of clearcoat failure. In the end i sold it as i got an offer i couldent refuse 2 weeks ago. I had hoped to get a Mistsu. Lancer Estate, as this really does a better job of making my life easier! Sat in a clients, loved it and thought this what i need. The budget is around £6k and im just trying not to go buy a a C2 1.6 VTR Sensodrive or a Mirca 1.4 SVE HEHE! The Mitsu the dealers wont come down on enough and all the estate seem to be out of my budget for what im comfty with. I have tried Zafiras but even the low milage ones on a 54 plate seem to have take to much abuse. Every C5 wagon seems to have issues, though i note the new Citroens seem to be much much better built and more reliable. We already have Kia with my sister who is at Uni and was really tempted to get another but should i choose to change i will loose to much money. Atleast on the older ones, the newer seems way more stable. They have insane warrenties but dealers wont budge on prices. My whole thing with cars really is that i dont want to pay a penny to run them. Which is really the joy with all my Jap cars and even the 530d. The idea of getting in to a 3000 mile per yr money pit is bad. The car must be Auto trans, things like 17" wheels are not important they just end up costing me money to replace the tyres. So low spec new cars are more up my street, the more character the better. I tried a 6000 mile, Zetec 1.6 Focus, but it just wasnt me. Back to the drawing board.... Thanks the Duisberg, you have a pm.
theduisbergkid
I'm on it Geoff. You do have a dodgy taste in cars there, here's a left-field once for you, cheap (at this time of year), v reliable, depreciation free, cheap parts, and fun to drive - MX5. If you insist on torturing yourself, Nissan Almera, as above, but no fun to drive.

steelwind101
Hehe! Id love an MX5 but i have Cobra so thats not going to go down to well with other half Focus wasnt me for b/c it was the old shape, i dont like the dash and its very bland. I love C4 and 307's as they have a bit of flare. Edowen, thanks, i will try to get over to that 55 plate Mitsu before the weekend. The Almeria (Tino or not) are a little too off for me! edo
I wouldnt buy from car giant if it was the last place on earth. Pile 'em high and dont even sell them cheap. No test drives, mostly high mileage tat when I last went there.
