Talking to some guys at work and we have no idea how he is going to fund what the govt are commited to and not cause uproar with personal tax. Cuprabob
this showroom tax is crazy as well. Cars in this bracket are more expensive, hence you pay more tax and VAT on the purchase price anyway. So now we're putting tiers in the car tax. We are already paying more for the luxury of driving cars we want; 1. The cars are more expensive so we pay more tax and VAT 2. The cars tend to have less mpg so we pay more fuel duty 3. The cars have higher insurance bands, so we pay more inurance premium tax 4. The casr are more expensive to service, so we pay more VAT on the bills. 6. The road tax is higher 7. Tyres are more expensive, so we pay more VAT Don't you think we're already paying our fair share? And another thing, if I hear thse patronising BBC reporters referring to the term "gas guzzlers" one more time
steelwind101
I agree totally Cuprabob, but i feel we currently have a goverment which seems to be out of touch and out of control. Also to note, if your doing it all legally then you probably have a bigger salary and pay more income tax before you can even buy those cars! byron13
This worries me - "Funding set aside for road-pricing proposals" Hmmmm on top of Raod Tax and fuel duty FFS they will spend billions on this and f@ck it up.
Cuprabob
VED after 2009 is looking really complicated although 1st year VED is normally included in the OTR charges. £400 this year and £415 next year for the .:R, could be worse
Mook
From http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7291841.stm • From 2009, major reform of the vehicle excise duty. For new cars from 2010, the lowest-polluting cars will pay no road tax in the first year. Higher-polluting cars will pay more. • Funding set aside for road-pricing proposals. • 2p increase in fuel duty is postponed until October this year. • For environmental reasons, fuel duty will rise by 0.5p per litre in real terms in 2010. Mook
Plus this: The most polluting vehicles will face a £950 "showroom" tax that will come into effect from 2010.
Mook
From the budget report (sorry for all the Copy/Pasting!) six new VED bands from 2009-10 – including a new top band (band M) for the most polluting cars that emit more than 255g CO2 per km; reducing the standard rate of VED, in 2009-10, for all new and existing cars that emit 150g of CO2 per km or less, and increasing the standard rate of VED on the most polluting cars to £425; from 2010-11, extending the zero rate of VED, during the first year of ownership, to all new cars that emit 130g CO2 per km or less – the EU proposed target for average new car emissions in 2012; holding the first-year rate for all new cars that emit between 131 and 160g CO2 per km equal to the standard rate in 2010-11; introducing for the most polluting cars a first-year rate of £950 in 2010-11; and providing a £15 or £20 discount for alternatively fuelled cars in 2009-10, and £10 in 2010-11; and aligning the alternative fuel and standard rates of VED in 2011.[]/i]
Mook
Last one I think - this is the new VED table - I've had to screen-shot it so it doesn't lose it's formatting. Bugger all impact, I reckon. How having to pay an extra £100-£150 a year for a higher polluting car is supposed to put people off is beyond me
