LostKiwi
The stalk switches are known to fail. You could try a contact cleaner in the switch but more than likely it'll be a replacement switch. One thing that has been noticed in the past is that the more its used the more likely it is to keep working! So on that basis keep playing with that switch... FBFsussex
right thanks for the advice. any idea on the cost of a new switch if the contact cleaner doesn't work?
LostKiwi
No idea sorry - mine has always worked! You could always try www.a8parts.co.uk and see if they have a good preowned one. Ian is on here regularly and a decent guy.
Joylove
Dose it with a generous amount of electrical contact cleaner spray (available from Maplins), use a rag to catch the drips. Definitely sounds like the switch, so be prepared to replace it.
Joylove
Double post> move the switch around as you spray it. Allow a moment for the majority of the fluid to evaporate before turning the power on.
fudge
I had the same problem with my facelift S8. I think that the problem is caused by the wire breaking due to flexing rather than dirty contacts. In any event mine was cured by fitting a new control arm. As I recall the new stalk was about £85 and the job took me about an hour (steering wheel/airbag has to come off). If I had done the job before would have only taken me about 30 mins. See this article for info http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/electrical_equipment/cruiseswitchreplace.html . The facelift cars are slightly different but the info is close enough (or it was for me).
