Cagey
As per the subject really, just wondering what I am going to need to remove the usual light, dealer-inflicted swirls on my new E90. I've read that historically BMW paint has been hard as nails, but have heard that the latest 3-series bucks that trend with very soft paint. Can anyone confirm this? I have about a quarter of a bottle of Menz FF, which I may try out on a small area at the weekend, but am really wondering if I would be wasting my time with it, and would need to step up to something slightly more aggressive. I'd rather get an idea of what to expect before I fork out for something that I may not need.
Tarmac_Terrorist
Hi! - can't say for sure but I have noticed how easy it it to inflict swirls on my grey 3 series. This could indicate softer paint I guess.

Cagey
Hmm, that's what I've got. Best take extra care during washing then....I normally have a habit of 'new car, new kit', but seeing as I only had the Z4 7 weeks, I won't be treating the 3 to fresh-out-the-pack mitts/towels. drpellypo
It depends on the car. Really. I've done two BM's the same week, both same age. One was soft as anything, the other was rock, and I mean, rock, hard. YOu just got to play with it and see how it responds.

steelwind101
My 5 is maroon, soft on the metal, hard on the plastic. It certantly isnt anti-scratch or ceramic based, to the best of my knowledge. Geoff

Cagey
Well, gave the car a 'proper' clean on Saturday - what a poo job the dealers did, just masked any defects which re-appeared when the car was washed, and the amount of contaminents on the paint was un-real - they just put whatever LSP they use straight over the tree-sap, tar spots etc. Gave it a thorough clay-ing which made a huge difference straight away. I tried using the Menz FF on one of the front wings - disn't touch any of the swirls... Will be stepping up to something a little stronger this weekend.
