So where is it then ???

Recommended Posts

Doesn't it have to be displayed in the windscreen at all times? I'm sure I've heard tales where people have been done for having no tax if it's on the dash? Anyone know what the ruling is?

Don't want to cause any distress! I'm probably wrong!

Technically it is supposed to be displayed on the windscreen but I have yet to be told off about it and I have either been stopped by or been with police and traffic wardens many times and no-one has ever even mentioned it. It's easily seen and it's likely that nowadays ANPR systems are more relied on to check if VED has been paid.

It started off being on the dash temporarily but then has stayed!

Oli - lol.gif and very sexy new avatar!

Speedywheels - Great link 169144-ok.gif - Useful legal site.

According to Section 33 Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 - level 1 fine - fixed penalty offence - summary offence. And furthermore to Regulation 6 Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002:

"The licence shall be fixed to the vehicle protected from the weather and clearly visible in daylight from the nearside of the road and exhibited : -

Vehicles with windscreens extending across the front of the driver to the nearside,

- on or adjacent to the nearside of the windscreen" - Which mine adequately satisfies.

"The licence shall be so exhibited that all the particulars on the licence are clearly visible in daylight from the near side of the road." - Which mine adequately satisfies.

"visible" = "so as to display information relevant to the vehicle" - Which mine adequately satisfies.

So, quite accidentally on this occasion, my common sense has matched with the law. It does explain why I have never been 'pulled' on this subject, though Oli suggests otherwise!

But, as someone's sig on that forum states: "Bullets speak louder than reason" grin.gif
