Sponge
This is a shout out to all those people with this camera. Do you ever have any problems with the face detection system working, but the pictures being out of focus? Because I do and it's starting to get feckin annoying. The camera beeps to indicate it's focussed and the preview of the taken shot shows the fd box around the face. But when I upload the picture to my PC it's out of focus. I'm missing out on some lovely shots.
CarMad
What modes are you using and focus setting is it set to? My Dad has the F31d and he hasn't mentioned anything and the shots look great. But to be honest if the shot above was taken without FD you should still get a great shot.
Waylander
I never tend to use FD tbh. I will try it over the next week and feed back
Sponge
The picture was very much a 'Snapshot'. We'd just bought Rohan the cycle helmet and he put it on when we weren't looking. I grabbed the nearest camera, said 'say cheese' (which he now does!) and took the photo without adjusting the the camera's settings. (I always try to remember to leave the camera in Auto mode for such eventualities.) It was taken in auto mode, auto flash and face detection on. I've googled the issue and so far found very little on the matter. There was one reviewer, and underwater photographer I think, that specifically mentioned having an issue with fd. When it worked, it worked fine; but when it didn't... He commented on it being a factor of low light, or back-lighting, either of them made it hit and miss. gizze
Face dtetection works by looking for a large light area in the image within a certain distance, in that pic above the sofa is the larget light area and it is within the distance required, so the camera has focused on that. I would turn it off and choose spot focusing and metering, less chance of missing a good pic.
Sponge
My readings on how fd works are different to yours then. [ QUOTE ] Face Detection uses an algorithm, which recognises eyes and a mouth to lock on to faces in the frame. [/ QUOTE ]
