AZURES3
As per previous posts in the lounge of joy, we went for the Mazda 6 in the end. What a great feeling, looking and speced car for the money, and you can work a £1500 discount at the dealer by waving the drivethedeal.com paperwork at the dealer Appreciate this is not the most excitng car on TSN by far but for circa £15k with discount it is a good car. Mazda are on a weight saving drive at the moment with all models and the new Mazda 6 is 50Kg ligher than the outgoing model We went for the Mazda 6 2.0 TS2 5 door in brilliant black in the end, scary to think I could of paid for 2 of these for the price of the S3 It is quite well speced with the following. 2.0 16v 147 BHP ABS, EBD, EBA & TCS Front & rear electric windows. MP3 jack & power in centre arm rest. Dual zone climate control. Cruise Control. Welcome mode lighting. Interior light pack. Mutlti function wheel with CF-Net. 17" Alloys. 6 CD in dash. Electric folding mirrors. Auto dimming rear and side mirrors. Auto wipers & auto lights. Integrated bluetooth. Front fog lights. Leather steering wheel & gear knob. Over all the car is great a bit of a does what it says on the tin car but very comfortably and with great control and steering. The steering feel is amazing and makes the S3 feel a little numb on straight ahead Anyway the mrs loves it and here are some pics shortly after collection so the suspension hadnt quite settled. It looks very Lexus IMHO in black and the pics dont do it justice really AZ

330dcoupe
'tis a nice looking car, but it does look allot like a Lexus GS. That cabin seems like a nice place to be, also.
CarMad
I've seen a few on the road and I think it looks great a genuinely fresh and very good looking car IMO. Spec is great and it will be cheap to run, its cars like this that are going to challenge BMW and Audi in the future whilst they try and tax us out of the car and on to the pavement. [/ QUOTE ] This is more of a prob for Lexus than Mazda. I read the estate review earlier today and it seems to get decent reviews. Cars like this do certianly show up the "premium" range toppers as hugely expensive.

Is an Audi or BMW really worth more than this ... ?? I drive one and I'm beginning to wonder I think to many the answer will be no. The cheaper cost and even if its faster depreciation you will still also lose less money, a big factor as well as the general increase in cost to run a car these days. AZURES3
I still think there is something to be said and felt for the german brands BUT to be honest the margin is reducedIMHO. The new Mazda 6 is a great achievement for the money and although some of the lower level plastics are a little hard compared to the germans it is very good value. It has 12,500 miles fixed service intervals with the service price around £168 I have to say based on the old Mazda 6 MPS at £23k with standard 4WD and BOSE etc I could be converted, lets face it Mazda come out top in the JD Power reliability surveys where as the germans are normally in the 10's. Sometimes you need to look at reliability rather than out and out looks, same could easily be applied to a good partner Strangly enough I have just found my post from 2006 Mazda 6 MPS 2006 post Old Mazda 6 MPS The new one will use the 2.5 engine and is apparently going to be 285 BHP 4WD for £24K I love my Audi's but to be honest with a new house and kids hopefully not too far away this does seem attractive for the money, or am I just getting to near 40 BTW - Thanks for all the positive comments on the mrs's new motor AZ

Chav
that mazda looks great! similar to new mondeo in terms of toys and quality from the look of it they just need to sort their branding out.... i'm sure they could make german cars look stoopid and a waste of money if they put their mind to it. TheReverend
If you don't mind me saying that's a lovely looking car. I hear what's being said about "prestige" brands and the fact of the matter is that unless you buy something really special you're satisfying your ego in most cases rather than something that is actually tangible. (I'm just as guilty as the next and it's certainly no criticism) Granted Audi make the best interiors and BMW's handle so deftly I find, but in some cases the gap is narrowing to the point where it really doesn't matter too much. With cars losing so much in depreciation spending less is actually a good thing.. Could the money be better spent elsewhere? Always, I get a little annoyed by the marketing of some cars being exclusive when there are more of them on the road than you know what to do with. I see 3 Series coupes all day long so they're good but not that special. The cars from apparently "lesser" brands look good enough to consider; Ford Mondeo being one and from the looks of it that Mazda 6 too. Hope the Mrs enjoys it... looks lovely and has load of toys too!

However if the government continue to make it more expenive to drive a car, slow us down even more and take away the potential to enjoy the car on a nice country lane then I will certainly consider my options in the future. My other half gets a kick out of getting 50.6mpg average and having almost all the same toys as mine has in a Vauxhall, its a great car but does it handle anywhere close to the Audi or BMW's I've driven, erm in a word no, but she loves it to bits so thats what counts.
