Exhaust trim covered manufacturers warranty?

Hello Guys,

After alot of sorting i got my new run around sorted this weekend, a Mitsu Lancer Elegance saloon. The is in great condition 16 months old and low milage, due to pick it up this week sometime.

At the back is an exposed exhaust pipe which isnt defective or damaged but the silver/chrome trim is. I would just pull it off and put a new one but after inspection it seems like its welded on.

The trim is a bit mankie and gone yellow i suspect the previous owner (disability) never washed or took care of it very well. Its just one sad thing on a perfect car, if you have read the cleaning part of the forum you know im a little anal about these things blush.gif.

At Toyota we considered the exhaust to be a consumable, however trims, including exhaust tips were trims. Trims were covered by the manufacturers warranty.

Do other manufacturers cover these too? Anyone had any experince in this kind of claim?

My argument would be that we dont expect this on a car that is 16 months old, on the other hand maybe its something that is to be expected.

Any help appreciated! I will phone the local dealer and try to get it sorted, if anyone has some ammo that would help i would love to hear it!

Thanks

Geoff
