You wonder what an ED30 would have done against it.

To be fair, you would have thought a R32 would have been more apt, AWD and all that, more like for like

Unless they wanted to prove what everyone knows the GTI is the fastest car in the world, half expected to see one overtaking the Bentley GT on the test track 169144-ok.gif

I'd expect them to be close to be honest. The GTI being a few tenths quicker would have been believable, but not nearly 2 seconds.

I'm sure evo mag came up with similar results recently, they also said was too heavy and wouldnt keep up with a well driven st or gti on the country roads?? You'd want the 300bhp version anyway, pity they made such a mess of its looks

the STI would have been better but then its 25k and 300bhp so bit unfair. Need a remapped ED30 against that lol.

Would be interesting battle tho.

The new WRX is mega roly poly and very soft as they're aiming for a whole new market now compared to previous incarnations.

I thought it was quite good though (I've posted this in gen cars) - that VBH quotes the Scooby as quicker acceleration, faster out of corners because she can get the power down earlier and 10mph faster at the end of the longest straight - so in essence the Scooby is quicker in a straight line and quicker out of the corners, but is sooooo absolutely sh1te at goign in to corners it loses 3 seconds.... OR is this another VBH lesson in how to make the better sponsor win.

the bhp/ton is actually very similar at around 155bhp/ton.

but the wrx set up is way too soft for the track. you see the GTI was almost 3 wheeling round one of the corners. The handling is really sorted for a FWD car.

The Scoob also a heavier car to slow down and get round a corner.

When the 2 cars were lined up I couldn't understand how a standard GTI could possibly be even a match for the WRX, it being AWD and 30 neddies more. So I was very surprised by the GTI 'win' and by the margin.

I guess it shows just how well the GTI's chassis is sorted.

White GTI's are getting awfully common!

I was sitting there with the wife ranting about how unfair it was and they're out to make the GTI look bad, how can they possibly compare a 4wd car with 30bhp more to the GTI, it's over a second quicker 0-60 blah blah blah.

2 minutes later we were sitting there slack jawed in shock. Genuinely surprised. the_finger.gif

Let's hope that it was a legit test.

4 Wheel drive must sap about 20 bhp also the Subaru was a little bit heavier and as for the 0-60 time being quicker, so what!! In real world driving the thing that matters is torque, and the GTI has very good spread of torque across its rev range. So not much of a surprise when you think about it.
