Trotter
I'm sure this has been answered before, but my light came on earlier today on the way home from work and has been on for the last 30 miles or so. This is the first time this has happended and the car has done about 45k miles. I've read a few threads but there seem to be a number of different answers as to what it might be. The car doesn't seem to be running any differently than normal. The manual says take it to the dealer, who will obviously sting me no matter how little the fault. Anyone out there had any recent experiences with this problem and can enlighten to me as to how it was resolved?
burble
It could be one (or more) of many problems. If you have access to Vag-Com you should be able to get more information.
Cuprabob
IRC that's the lamp that lights up when a fault code has been recorded. It's likely to be a sensor but you'll need either VAG.COM or a dealer to read the error code.
Mattchaps
Probably the coolant temperature sensor
Mook
Worst case scenario is that cats are dead, but this is VERY unlikely. Next is the lambda probes, but again, very unlikely. More likely to be your coolant temp sensor or one of the coil packs on the way out or a duff reading from the MAF sensor. Is the car going as well as normal? [/ QUOTE ]Hi Trotter,I had this same problem on my previous 06 GTi.I was told it was ok to drive unless light starts to flash.(which it did'nt) It turned out to be a faulty fuel sensor which was replaced under warranty.Hope that helps.. Trotter
Cheers for the info everyone. Managed to get hold of a new temperature sensor and replacing it has done the job.
