FBFsussex
ok i want to tint my car, or at least i did this morning. made one call and got loads of storied from the company i rang. reckons the A8 will take 2 days to tint?? reckons the film will hold the ambient temp in the glass and weaken it?? then the glass will fail?? reckons hes the only guy in sussex who would take on the job. finally he tells me that if i had the glass limo all round i would have the car taken off the road within a week yet my chavvy BMW E30 has had limo tints all round for 2 years and ive never even been pulled. have i just been very lucky? also ive seen the glass in the toyota previa, its a coated glass but has a brown mirror finish, that would really suit the colour of my car but does anyone know if theres is a similar film or if theres anywhere that can coat the glass? all info much appreciated. Botang
To be fair I think you have been lucky, it depends on how much you use your car I guess, but I know quite a lot of people that have had to have tints removed on front windows. david1
It depends on the shade anything forward of the B piller and you could be in trouble. After 2004 the law changed as I understand it ask the main dealer for the company they use and then call the company direct. I just inquired about our Touran and the 8 yesterday. [/ QUOTE ] Yep thats right anything forward of the B pillar can only have a tiny level of tint, which the Manufacturer usually supply as standard without you realising. Rear of the B pillar you can have anything you like.
FBFsussex
i understand why they have that law but its such a shame. cars with only rear tints look turd!.. looks like im going to have to give tints a miss
Ska
I speak from a little experience of my own; so when he says it'll take 2 days I agree- TWO FULL DAYS. if he's going to cover all the side glass to the edge those windows are coming out and the only way to do that is to disassemble the door frames. Pentagon were quoting me £1200 a while ago And even if he decides to leave the windows in there, those rubber surround strips around tough to pry back. On the level of tint; it comes down to personal pref but you will get pulled by the fuzz at some point if your going that dark. Personally I prefer a subtle translucent tint on the sides and a heavier tint on the rear screen.
PsYcHe
Not planning to do the 8, but the tints did look the business on the Wife's black Kia Sedona (bleugh), 0 on the windscreen 20% on the front sides and max on the rest of the sides and back (was a bitch to reverse, especially in the dark). Not sure that 'limo black' would suit an '8, especially if it's not painted black. I've had a few guys at work been pulled recently by the 'reputable gentlemen in uniform' and made to take the tints off the front, but depends on where you are and how crap a day they've had (allegedly)
