shadow8
Can anyone tell me if there is a fix for a whining AC compressor on my S8 or is it just something one has to tolerate unless replacing it? Thanks
Figure11
I have this on mine. Not enough to annoy, but noticable. Probably the magnetic clutch, I will live with it as it disapears at speed and change when it becomes intrusive. To confirm it is the clutch just switch the compressor off by selecting recirc. If the noise goes you know what it is. Mike
Ska
After a few months sitting idle my cars started doing this. Will have a look when the weather a bit better. But mine normally whines on cold then goes away once warmed up.
PsYcHe
Ska... Sure that's not just the missus? Mine normally does that, but I find a quick application of heated seat calms it down quickly
Ska
Naah... She whines whether shes in the car or anywhere else for that matter But I do find the compressor clutch whine drowns her out for the first few minutes when she is in the car
IT_S8
AC Whine will be bearings on the compressor. It only gets worse over time, answer is to replace compressor. Its usually a little squeaky noise, rev related with the A/C on. You can test it by switching the climate to ECON mode, which turns off the A/C, or turn off the climate altogether. I think Mike was having a very rare off moment suggesting Recirc would test the theory

shadow8
Thanks everyone. I'll live with it........price plus fitting of replacement is prohibitive!
