RobK
Should I do it? It's downloaded itself via Windows Update and is now asking to install. A quick Google and I see that some people are having a lot of problems with it. Not sure I want to risk it now!
Gren
I'd go for it. I thought the only issues were around drivers and they were being sorted out by the manufacturers themselves. Did not realise the auto downloads were starting until mid-April and that if you wanted it now you had to download it yourself.......ah well, will give me something to do over the Easter weekend. techieboy
Installed it okay, last night. No problems on my setup with the exception that the icons for my Internet Explorer Quick Links seem to have got themselves mixed up a little bit. TSN Link now has an eBay icon
Mac
I've been running it for a while mate, as has a lot of people at my organisation. Go for it
nordberg
Been running it for abour 6 weeks or so. No issues. It does help to prevent those "mystery moments" when Vista just hangs for a minute or 2 doing feck knows what. One thing though, it takes ages to install so do it during the night or something. nordberg
Vista is a totally counter-productive OS. It's the Millenium of the new millenium. I have very little positive to say about it really. It's not like it's slow at some things but blindingly fast at others, it's dog slow at everything! Booster
Like booting up!!!! My laptop must take four or five minutes!!
sufu
Can't say I've ever had a problem with Vista, the system boots fast, runs fast, is more responsive and buffers more appropriate content and applications than XP ever could. I'm actually a bit worried that SP1 is going to ruin it!
CarMad
Well I've got it installed and its working a treat for me, took about 30mins to install it all in.

Sparky
My Vista PC (that was an XP PC) boots faster now Vista is installed. SP1 also is no problem. Installed it on a few machines now and it has improved Vista, if only slightly.
Waylander
to be fair I am comparing apples and oranges: Xp Pro Pc and Vista Laptop... Anyone installed SP1 onto a current Vaio Laptop? want to know if the utils will fall down...
Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Anyone installed SP1 onto a current Vaio Laptop? want to know if the utils will fall down... [/ QUOTE ] Sat on Vaio lappy with Vista right now, and debating the merits of SP1. I might hang on a few more days, mainly because we've got a big customer migration on this weekend, so risking killing my email access this weekend would be a bit stupid. Waylander
oh indeed. But actually, thinking about it Chris it might be a good idea - go for it! After all if your email falls down you'll have no option but to fire up the monster photoshop machine... Which vaio did you get in the end Chris [don't rub it in completely by saying you got the FZ31z and not the FZ21z!]
Chav
Vista with SP1 is still slower than XP (on high end machines) Hopefully they'll fix this for Vista SP2...
byron13
Vista for home good, business bad. Best with a decent high end Core 2 Duo though
Omi
*cough* Quad! SP1 doesn't really seem to have made any difference for me, after sitting watching it install for half an hour. - I was getting the incremental updates the whole time though. byron13
For sure Omi - just some good prices on Core 2 Duo's at the moment with 2Gig it flys..........
Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Which vaio did you get in the end Chris [/ QUOTE ] VGN-SZ61VN_X, also known as a PCG-6S3M according to the label on the bottom of it. It's my work laptop, and my only working PC right this instant - the self-build I'm dong now won't boot, the old PC is unplugged and on top of the desk, and the new PS beast has had it's power, LAN and KVM connections borrowed to try to get this new-build working. Mine you, it does mean I've currently got 12 cores, 18GB of RAM, about 3.5TB of hard drive space, four DVD writers and a Blu-Ray writer in the study. It's mostly in bits though, so it looks more like an IT equivalent of Steptoe's yard than a study!
RobK
Well I installed SP1 and now my PC refuses to wake from sleep mode I have to hit the reset button every time. I have disabled sleep mode for now.
Waylander
Installed it last night. Took a huge amount of time but otherwise all was well. Looks like MS have learned from the XP SP2 fiasco!
