What are the 'must-have' satnav units at the mo?

My dad is after a satnav unit. Something to sit on his dash/mount to windscreen.

Up to now he's been using his smartphone and tomtom mobile, but his phone is on it's way out. So I suggested a dedicated unit, something with a bigger screen for his old eyes

As I'm not up to date with the latest models, I hoped someone else was and could offer a few suggestions. Is now a good time to buy? Are there any new models due out soon? (Don't really want to buy something, unless it's cheap, that'll be out of date in five minutes.)

Ditto, I got my wife a TomTom one for Christmas and it does the job Craig !. Halfrauds were about the cheapest.

TomTom 920T is about to be replaced with the 930T. Price for the 920T has fallen to about £245 (see link below) which with all its functions is outstanding value. 930T will be about £400 with just a bit more functionality. So if you want a large screen, bluetooth, spoken instructions through the car radio and a lot more go for the 920T.

And don't worry about going out of date I'm just about to sell a 910 and that is still pretty good compared against today's models.

Go for the 920T, it's about to replaced with the 930T which will cost about £400 with limited extra functions. 920T prices have just about levelled off and represent really good VFM. Screen is big and has bluetooth, instructions through car radio and lots more.
