Yesterday it was absolutely fine

My A4 did this - perfectly fine on the drive to Oxford, left it parked up in the sun and when I went to drive back home the aircon wouldn't get cold, but the ECON light was off as it should have been. It was something to do with the compressor and cost around 200 quid to fix.

I find it kind of strange that one day the aircon is fine and cold and the next day its not. All that refrigerant can't be lost overnight can it?

Took it in to Big Boys Toys yesterday. Couldn't have a look at it but have it booked in for Tuesday.

Also, after getting some great help and advice from Pincher, I did a bit of reading on the pulsing fans issue. I've now noticed that none of my fans seem to be working, so that might be the main problem.

Hope Big Boys can sort it out Tuesday or at least have a diagnosis...

Exactly why it can't (IMO) be the gas. Where did it all go? More likely to be something else.

Quick update on this. Just picked up my car from Big Boys Toys. Was with them all day yesterday, Had it re-gassed, checked compressor and for leaks in the system, wiring and told me it probably is the fan control module underneath the battery.

Have it ordered to be in by either tomorrow or monday. Paid just a shade under a hundred this morning and expect a bit more when it next goes in. The module is about £230 I was told. :(

I would have thought that with all the sophisticated fault finding equipment available that there would have been a more positive diagnosis than "probably" especially as the replacement part is so expensive? What with the money already spent and the new part plus fitting you must be looking at in excess of £400. To me that's a seriously expensive fault. Please keep us posted.

I am in the same boat - I have ordered a fan control module - but the part is only about £90 and that's from VW. Looks easy to fit too, will post a link that I have found but its on my Mac. Will post it up later.

The part number they have order for me is V1J0 919 506 N which is £79.54 + VAT.
