poobarr
Then you should try a Honda S2000 or EP3 Civic Type R - believe me they are a LOT better than the GTI. I have to agree with that.
DanoS4
Well, I had the S3 test drive today. A 56 S3 (2l turbo) in red. Pros? The usual Audi refinements. Knowing the layout makes it quite familiar. The brakes (probably servo'd) very potent. The acceleration and torque was VERY good indeed - 265bhp iirc) Sure-footed Quattro - it was p1ssing down and the roads were very wet. Cons? Steering was quite vague - certainly not as sharp as the GTi which was quite surprising Driving position was high The seats were hard and didn't hug you like the GTi. The clutch & gear change felt cheap - certainly not as meaty as my S4. In the back, there was a fair bit of room, but quite a low roofline. The boot didn't look as big as the Golf. Bi-Xenon lights, armrest et al were optional extras. All-in-all, a very good test drive, but I'm not going to compare the performance, because to be honest, the S3's extra power, I feel can only be used on straight roads. The GTi over the exact same test-drive route, had more to give, I *think* My findings have left me with an interesting conclusion. The Audi, whilst fantastic, is a lot of money over the Golf, and with exception of extra power in a straight line, is hard to justify. The Golf is bigger inside, has good performance and is cheaper..... And I think I can live with the lower power compared to the S4 I have now..... hmm... interesting!! :D Did anybody come to other conclusions when they test drove the GTi? What other cars did you try? sbgwz
Have you tried a 1-series of any form?
pany
Have you tried a 1-series of any form? I've had the A3 and now a GTI, I'm 6'3" and the 1 series feels like I'm putting on shoes, to me it seems very small inside, although surprisingly well specced with PDC and MFSW in the spec \i looked at
DanoS4
Sorry, couldn't live with the 1 series. I've had Subarus, which are ugly cars, and I could live with that (!), but the 1 series is awful (IMHO!) BMs in general leave me cold. I've driven most of them, and they just don't interest me. Thanks though Dan
sbgwz
Each to his own i suppose, not too sure if this has been mentioned but what about a Megane R26? EDIT: Renault are offering a 24 hour test drive in any car so in theory you could test drive the clio 197 and megane R26 http://www.24drive.renault.co.uk/
