Waylander
I have found a problem with uTorrent on my "new" install. Basically when I use it, it COMPLETELY saturates my broadband connection [doesnt matter what the actual download speed it] and I cannot surf/check email etc with it on. In fact I have to exit uTorrent and log off the user then log back in for it to work. I am fairly sure i have done the maxopen increase from 10 thing and a number of other fixes suggested by Uncle Google but no joy at all. I remember on my old machine the problem just disappeared when i cut down max number of connections but not now. Any hints?
Irnbrukid
You could decrease your upload limit a bit to 40 Kb/s, right click the icon select upload limit. Or ask at http://forum.utorrent.com/
mb
I haven't used uTorrent but have you tried BitTorrent as have never had these problems ?
Waylander
upload speed is <10kb/s
Waylander
odd. updating XP and there was a update which patches P2P - that seems to be doing the trick as I am writing this with uTorrent on.
Waylander
GGRR Spoke too soon. Problem still persists - had to shut down and log off this morning while it was on overnight
khutula
I use uTorrent without any issues on an old PC. Have you tried to run the speed test. It checks whether the port required is open too. Sometimes connections are blocked by XP firewall. Some routers require you to forward the port too.
S3Bangs
Torrenting?!? Pah! Try Newsgroups and I swear you'll never look back. A bit difficult to understand but once you get to know how to use it, imagine d/l at the maximum capacity of your line and being able to control what speed you d/l at. SSL encryption so no one knows what you're downloading (Not that I d/l anything dodgy) and everything you'll ever need at your fingertips. Brabus
hows that done then? How do you access newsgroups?
S3Bangs
hows that done then? How do you access newsgroups? I'll PM you.. Also, you can google 'usenet', google 'newsgroups', google 'newsleecher' , that should give you a start Mind though.. You have to pay but the price is peanuts in comparison to what you can get and the speed at which you can get stuff

I did the speed check and actually used a slow speed so global connections 130; 50 peers and 2 uploads; speed limited to 300kb/s d/l and 7kb/s upload while I try to sort this but as I said the issue is not related to the d/l speed. I even did tweaks like setting half max wotsit to 4 etc. Not sure what else I can do except ignore what I have done and start again with the tcp/ipsys settings etc and work from there..... Torrenting?!? Pah! Try Newsgroups and I swear you'll never look back. Torrenting is free.....
Waylander
seems it is a conflict with Nod32. Lots of people saying it suddenly started a few weeks ago so maybe an update in Nod32 or uTorrent precipitated it. Anyway the issue it Nod32 seeing uTorrent as a web-browser. Fixing that seems to sort it.
