Applying a Glaze then Sealant : Apparently its a no no....

Over on Detailing World I have just read a post to say this is incorrect as the oils in the sealant will not bond to the paintwork because a layer of glaze is present. The post did mention that applying a wax after glaze is ok.

Any help on this one guys?

Hihi!

Dont panic! The whole glaze and sealant thing is a silly generalisation that when chosen products are matched together there isnt a problem.

Ok so first: Polymer and Arylic sealants do work 100% fine with arylic and polymer glazes. These glazes would include: Prima Amigo and CG EZ Glaze to name but two of the most popular ones.

Secondly, some glazes work fine with oils. The Meguiars system is an example. Meguiars 7 Show car glaze and Deep Crystal Step 2 work perfectly with NXT/NXT 2.0/#20/21/21 2.0. They all work with the what are called TS oils.

Also, the following sealants play well with oil based glazes: PB EX-P, EX, Wolfgang Sealant.

Oils from glazes fill the pores of the paintwork, some sealants try to lose in these pours and problems can happen. As for DW, alot of info, not really all that correct and very little closure on anything.

Personally, if you have doubts contact the product makers. If you look at Wolfgangs range you will see that they offer a finishing glaze (oil based) that is ready for Wolfgang to go on top of. Poorboys offer oil based glazes too to under there products. Meguiars (Meguiars online) own forum has alot info on oils and there system. Likewise, Autopia has alot of answers; clear and defined. Search my name and i have several posts explaining the uses of glazing oils!

I hope that helps!

Thats the same advice I got, so I use either Klasse AOI the deep gloss sealant or Wolfgangs sealant then top up with some wax P21s or collinite 915 depending on the weather.

With regard the Klasses system you can put down AIO, then CG EZ GLAZE, then KSG then CG EZ GLAZE then KSG.

That looks so wet and doesnt compromise durability!

Thanks for the info and help, excellent as ever !. ;)

I agree re DW and things being a bit on and off if you see what I mean.

I must admit that when I have applied RMG and Wolfgang I dont see any problems with beading etc.

May be going down the G220 route after my last effort, I think it will be far easier on the arms and I should get better results....hopefully.
