Vagabond
with the holograms on both sides of my car. I caught a glimpse of my car in the sunlight today and i was less than pleased with these marks. Is there any way to sort these, once and for all, or do i have to paint the car? I'm losing the will to clean my car because of these 'scars' thankyou.
davyk31
Me too...........the sunny weather shows them all up big time. So guys whats the best way of getting rid of these swirl marks by hand or is really the job for someone with a machine.
ahaydock
It would be very hard to remove these sort of defects by hand, but they should come out by machine easily enough. I would maybe contact your local detailer or track someone local to you to help remove them. This will be much cheaper than a re-spray (which isn't needed). This is what I recently achieved using my Megs G220 polisher (some 50/50 shots): Where are you based?
steelwind101
Hello, While its pretty tough to remove the marks by hand regular use a light abbrasive by hand will improve gloss and certantly knock the edges off some of the swirl marks and make an improvement. Also, using products which fill the imperfections is a good idea too! Once you have used a paintwork cleaner you can apply a few layers of Mothers Sealer and Glaze (no protection) and then top with NXT 2.0. ahaydock
Also, using products which fill the imperfections is a good idea too! Auto Glym Super Resin Polish is very good for this by hand I find.
davyk31
Yes I was planning to use Autoglym Super Resin but thought I would ask first to see if there is any better product.
ahaydock
Not really by hand IMO.
steelwind101
Personally i would use a filling glaze as opposed to SRP if you have really bad swirls. The logic behind it is that you can keep applying the glaze, the oils keeps filling the marks on the paintwork. When certain parts of the paintwork become "saturated" you just wipe it off but the non filled bits will continued to get topped up. SRP contains an abbrasive and a chemical cleaner. Although some people claim on layering etc. i high suspect much of this is in there own mind or they are simply seeing the effects of using a chemical cleaner and super light abbrasive twice in a row. This of course would refine the surface and improve gloss, however isnt going to do too much good on serious issues. Also, i suggest NXT as its known for hiding swirl marks and works really well with oil based products.
ahaydock
I agree with the layering on SRP Geoff, never though this worked. THe NXT would be a good choice also. From my experience I have found better results using SRP, followed by a glaze then topped with wax.
Tarmac_Terrorist
I had a metalic black Vectra a couple of years ago. It was a new car but had a lot of holograms which stood out on the Vectra's flattish panels. I found a couple of coats of Autoglym Ultra Deep shine worked well - at least it covered / part removed about 80-90% of the marks. I actually initially used AG SRP thinking it's filling properties would do the job. Unfortunately it really didn't seem to work well on the black paint and actually made it more of a misty / charcoal black compared to the untreated areas. Unusual as i've previously had very good results from SRP on a solid black car
fingermouse
AG uds is good on black cars but a little dusty imo
maersk
If its dusty you are using too much.
pitch3110
I am no specialist by any means, but if mine starts to look holo, I megs 1,2 and NXT. If really bad scratchx. The results I am more than happy with & in sun light looks great.
