BrakeSnake
Just looking through my car docs after a 2 week driving hols, and I've noticed that in section 4 under Vehicle Details, subsection V.7, it states the car's CO2 output. My car was registered 01 02 2006, the CO2 listed on the V5 is 257 G/KM!!! In every magazine listing and bit of material around the mk5 R32 is quoted as having an output of 255 G/KM. The new tax bands coming in next year, the top group starts at OVER 255, so 257 would obviously put the .:R in the same group as the top level exotica. Out of interest guys, what's figure quoted on your V5's?
Cuprabob
I'm sure my Mk5 R32 DSG is around 226g/km. Mine was registered in June 06 so got hit big time with the Band G introduction:ffs: Suprised how much less the emissions on the DSG car are compared to the manual. mlhj83
Mine says 231g/km. Seems very strange that there is a discrepancy amongst cars with similar specs. Mine was registered in Nov 06.
BrakeSnake
That's interesting... Where as in years gone by with less tax bands, it wouldn't really mean much, but nowadays it does. Does anyone know what the V5 CO2 number refers to, ie a vehicle specific number or generic value, statistical average as it were, for that make and model of vehicle. Does anyone know what the V5 CO2 number refers to, ie a vehicle specific number or generic value, statistical average as it were, for that make and model of vehicle. I would have thought that emissions would have been based on manufacturer specifications as I don't believe that the DVLA would be so "hard working" as to measure the emissions of each and every R32. Then again, measuring the emissions of each and every car would be the one possible explanation for the discrepancies amongst the same make, model and spec. Unless of course, manufacturers have more specific emissions values for a particular model with various specifications for legal/tax purposes. By this I mean that manufacturers have obtained a range of emission values for a particular model based on weight, transmission type etc. For the purpose of simplicity for customers, manufacturers only release emission values for different transmission types as transmissions affect emissions more than any other option available for the car. mlhj83
Apologies, I just checked my V5 and it's 235g/km That would make sense as your car would be a little heavier than mine (when mine was bog standard), given that you have the RCD500, winter pack and oem recaros, which I don't. Just as well they don't include me in the weight as it might push it over the threshold for the next band

BrakeSnake
So are there any manual transmission guys that know what their V5 says...?
Tonsko
Mine's a Mk IV manual, and I'm sure it's 279.
BrakeSnake
279?? That's a huge amount for the golf? Guess the top tax band will be popular next year...

rhind
VW UK currently states that the DSG is 231 g/km and the manual is 255 g/km. I think that puts them both in the same band (just). Cheers Russell
Cuprabob
Add a couple of options to the MKV and it will push it over the 255 threshold into the next band. The MKIV emissions are around the 270 mark as previously stated
BrakeSnake
Ah, so the 255 number that VW states is a base number and this changes according to the options for the specific car spec that you have? Is this correct? Just couldn't get my head around why some cars were different to others
Tonsko
I reckon it's cos all engines are different, and they are measured before they leave the factory. Mine is standard.

BrakeSnake
Good job we haven't got to the stage yet where the Government fight on CO2 and fat people can be done under one piece of legislation... i.e weighing the driver every time you get a car or MOT and base your CO2 emissions on that... I'd be screwed!! Would be a bad thing also if they came up with a 'fart emissions' tax as well....
