Turrican
My MK4 R is off to the garage soon for a brake fluid change + maybe new pads and discs and i thought it might be a good time to get the brake lines changed to some stainless steel ones. The reason for the change is that sometimes the brakes feel spongey and don't give me confidence unless they've been pumped a bit. Would the stainless steel lines solve my problem or could it point to a problem elsewhere? I will also be running stock pads and discs. The SS brake lines i have found are the "Neuspeed Stainless Steel Brake Lines R32", the best price i've found is £150. Can anybody offer any advice? Cheers
Dan32
I've been told in the past that they're not worth the money. R32 has braided hoses (I think) covered with rubber as standard. Tyrolsport do a stiffening kit which replaces the caliper mounting bushes with brass inserts. I've got them but had different discs put on so couldn't say if it made difference on its own. You could consider upgrading to ATE blue fluid which is also what I run. Best bet is have a word with the boys at APS. They are always happy to point you in the right direction and have worked on so many Rs over the years, they tend to know what works best for them. Gti_Fly
I've fitted the Tyrol Sport bushes to my R32, and to be honest I don't think there was any real gains in terms of feel or power. I have noticed that I no longer get a blue ring on the discs if I brake very hard/drive hard/stop hard. So I guess they allow the pads to be pressed evenly across the discs. Techinically worth it on that basis, but in most cases, you won't feel any difference. Might be worth changing the brake fluid to something more performance orientated, and it's DEFINATLY worth upgrading the brake pads to something like Ferodo DS2500 - I've heard nothing but total praise for these on Golfs. Turrican
Just spoken to APS, they recommend going for the ATE Super Blue Racing Fluid with the EBC Red Stuff New Formula front pads. Apparently these shouldn't squeal.

Turrican
Cheers for the post. Are you going to change the discs to something like the ECS OE 2 piece - I think I will? No, going to stick with stock discs. I can't see much point in upgrading those unless you're doing a lot of track days, which i don't. khutula
The red stuffs are pretty harsh for stock discs. You might find it eats them.
Turrican
Decided to go all 'Stock' in the end. I've lived with it for nearly 5 years so it can't be that bad.
