Chav
Is it just me, or have people noticed that average speeds on some motorways are slowing down? Was wondering if people were trying to be more economical?
steve2
I think your right because i thought this as i went along the M2 yesterday, mind you, it does show who has got a fuel card via work:(
RedRobin
....I've noticed cars driving slower too, but not the white vans!! - It's often a nuisance when they bunch up on A and B-roads, all at 35-45 mph when you could be going at 50/60. Isn't it in the Highway Code that you should always try to maintain a road's speed limit? I think it's because so many people want to burn less fuel - I've also noticed that many of these folks don't take much notice of the 30/40 mph speed limits though :nono: Me? - I say, feck it! I want to have safe but fun journeys when I drive. It's not how fast you get there but how much you enjoy doing so, imo.
patently
Difficult to say. I guess the blurs to my left do seem to disappear a little more quickly, so maybe?

CarMad
I think people are becoming obsessed with what speed they are doing. They are looking down at their speedometer more than they are looking at the road, is that safe, erm NO. I find the gap between people going quickly and those going far to slow getting wider if anything. Some people in the morning drive like they are possed but then you come upon people that have all the time in the world. Often both are as dangerous as each other in their own way. patently
Seriously, I think this thread has a point. I seem to be meeting more people who have obviously thought "Well, if I pull out into the outside lane, perhaps I ought to accelerate to 70 while I'm there" .... as they pull out while doing 55, without checking their mirrors Now, I know that in such circumstances, if I were to be doing more than 70, I would be being rather naughty , but this growing minority really is ever so slightly lethal. Keeps one on one's toes, I guess
RedRobin
Isn't it in the Highway Code that you should always try to maintain a road's speed limit? Uh, no.... ....Okay, it may not be in the Highway Code (40 years since I read it properly!), but I was definitely taught (more recently on a performance car road course) to do so. Also, I do believe that you should always try and join M'ways etc up to speed according to the H'way Code (I'm adamantly told by someone who recently past their test and is a rule geek). Anyroadup, as CarMad says, it's equally dangerous to drive too fast or too slow for the conditions. Many drivers are just soooo unaware of what's going on around them - If I see a faster car or bike approaching in my rear-view mirror, I hang left and make sure there's a gap in front of me for them - I don't see enough other drivers doing that! But I'm someone who, while driving, never listens to the radio/music, talks as little as possible to passengers (and they understand this), and I don't approve of any smoking or hands-free telephone calls either. Stay focussed!
