Do you mean Contract Hire or personal leasing? (Hire purchase/lease purchase?)

Gareth
Contract hire might prove expensive if you intend to option the car up over standard...and it's dead money unless you can offset via your business/employer....
Froggy
Yes I realise it's expensive - It's a company car - I just pay the benefit in kind. We normally buy, because we get a very good discount. Just don't want to tie the money up at the moment.

Just don't want to tie the money up at the moment. Sure. But you are taxed on the P11D value of the car in question and if you spec up an S3 (and I'm thinking it is unlikely you would order a base car) then that will a) affect the taxation and b) each option would add greatly to the monthly rental. For example adding DVD nav as an option would be likely to add £80-£100 per month to a typical Contract hire rental. So over a 2+23 term you would end having paid well over £1,500 for having the DVD nav option but get no benefit when getting rid of the car-hence it would make more sense (using the Nav option as the example) to not spec that and have a TomTom device (or similar) However if you get a good car allowance and don't care about the taxation then you should be ok. What I was mainly trying to get over is that Contract Hire is more suited to the base model cars with minimal specification over a car that has many options over std. Good luck with whatever you go for!
Merlot
Well said. I've been looking at contract hire but Audis' have such low spec that the rentals are far too high with options unless you are looking at an A8. I know that it reflects the fact that most options are worthless but personally I would finance in another way and keep the car longer (HP?) or just buy used. I'm mainly doing the latter now. PS The only benefit to my mind of contract hire is that it insulates you from falling residuals and rising car tax but you have to take a standard spec car give or take. Froggy
Cheers Gareth, good advice - I have been looking further into this I have realised that the spec I'm likely to want does make it a expensive proposition. I have approx £400 + vat per month (ish - flexible if I really found the right thing) to spend, and the taxation is just an expense for me to live with. I'm currently steering towards a A5 2.0TFSi (211) with some toys. So thinking that leasing would be better as the residuals on an A5 should be strong, and it comes quite well equipped as standard. To get a decent spec A5 on HP or LP you're going to have look at bringing in some equity to get anywhere near the £400 @ month budget really.
