Mo-S3
I have a 50" plasma at the moment and is brilliant in every way. Problem is noe that ive had the lounge extended so it measures 5M wide by 10M long. The 50" is going to look too small on the wall and with the viewing distance now doubled its not really big enough. Has anyone got any experience of these HD projectors? Would it be worth getting one of these and have it ceiling mounted? Would you say the picture is comparable to a very good plasma picture? The plasma i have at the moment is the Fujitsu 58 series. thanks
Riz
Ive not had much experience with HD projectors, depends on what your buget is but the Panasonic 2000 has been getting decent reviews @ £2k..... for the 5k mark youve got the JVC HD models. Try having a quick browse over on AVForums. Riz

I'm sure some people will disagree, but if you have viewing distance right and a quality screen with thick black border, it'll look fantastic with a 12ft pic about 20-25ft away!! picture is probably as good as/better than most plasmas when lights are dim. Chav
forgot to mention, have a demo first to see if you are affected by rainbow effect of DLPs. most arent, but some notice it. similar to how some people get irritated by the flicker from an old 50hz crt and some dont. Mo-S3
Thanks guys, I will defo get a demo done first of any projector. Juat the issue of poor contrast during the day might cause a few hoo haa's with the family. Might even mount the 50" on the wall and then have a drop down screen for the projector for the crucial movies and evening viewing.

A couple of good things about this solution, projectors take a little time to power up and down and are not suited to just checking the footy score or to see if anything good is on but at night when you want to watch a good film a HD projector can't be beaten especially if matched to a good surround system. As Chav mentions checkout DLP v's LCD as the DLP rainbow problem does effect some people. checkout this site for some good reviews and it has a good screen size calculator (It's american but most of the models are available in the uk) Projectors, Projector Reviews, LCD Projectors, Home Theater DLP Projectors at ProjectorCentral.com
Biscuits
Keep the Fujitsu 50 for everyday viewing, not projector will compare to a plasma in a daylight/lit room scenario, but there's nothing like a 8" HD picture from a PJ when it's dark. The budget (500-1000) DLP's will suffer with rainbow effect, but above that they are pretty good. We have an InFocus IN82 in our dem room at the moment, displaying on a Projecta Premium silver screen... looks stunning from the PS3 or Panny Blue-Ray sources. Where abouts are you? Welcome to pop in and have a look. B
