Decked
Can anyone tell me if you can reverse the DSG manual box? I've been driving the car with the paddles most of the time but decided to try it out on manual (I was a little bored). I was surprised to find that up a gear was forward and down was down.... A bit annoying to be honest! Possibly something that I'd get used to, but I’m sure it's wrong.... Thanks
Cuprabob
Agree with you on the direction of the gearshift although you do get used to it though. Not seen anything to reverse it although I would expect it could be easily done with a mod to he firmware if VW would let you anywhere near the code+++
Biscuits
Doubt anything can be done... I'm not sure why Audi have done it this way round, as the most natural way of downshifting would be to knock the gear stick forward. Maybe it was one of those "let's be different" marketing decisions we all love to hate.
Decked
I'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks it's weird! I was hoping there was something in Vag-Com.... I guess not.
stooH
Having gone from a manual to DSG I didn't have any preconceptions as to how it would work, I find this the easiest way to remember it: Up for up. Down for Down. I find it quite easy to remember.
Biscuits
I guess it's different in the GTI, but in the 535d I would have found it hard to push the stick up/forward to change up as the G-Force was so great
Decked
Up for up. Down for Down. But it shouldn't really work like that.... yes it sounds logical but when ur braking hard into a bend and go manual everything is pushing forward therefore I'd expect the same direction to drop gears. I gues it'll take time to get used to! By the time I get used to it the new beast will arrive and thank god in manual! DSG is not for have-it mode! stooH
DSG is not for have-it mode! In your opinion. I happen to find that it is, but I can also push the stick in the right direction.

mikemod
I find the direction of travel to be intuitive as well, If you want to go faster you push forward, if you want to go slower you pull back. I use the paddles on the steering wheel anyway so doesn't make much difference. I thought all automatics were like this and always have been, the only odd one out was the BMW SMG box who seem to have decided to go the opposite direction. As most people haven't any experience in rally cars or touring cars I suspect thats why they kept it the same as most road cars. Decked
In all honesty I did start off in an M3 SMG and that really is a have-it gearbox! But the CL AMG box does the same. I gues VW decided to go the other way.....

JonC
I have only used the DSG box in up/down shift mode once; only use the paddles or auto, but the time I did, I didn't take to it. Much prefer the paddle shift.
RedRobin
....You get used to it, as in all things if you allow yourself to do so. It seems a waste of having DSG not to use the paddles anyway - All shifts are instantly under your finger tips as you hold the steering wheel. Even on full lock you can find a technique or then use the floor stick 'in emergency'. Or even pop her into S-mode and keep using the paddles within the 30 second periods. The DSG offers so many great options imo. New VW Scirocco 2.0T DSG Review - First impressions....
Decked
Or even pop her into S-mode and keep using the paddles within the 30 second periods. Normally I do use the paddels. Is there any way of increasing the 30 seconds to say 1min?

I was trying it in S-mode but also using the paddles recently - That would be a cool combination. In fact I'd prefer not to have any time-out on it at all. Snoopy
HOW MUCH!!! imo some people have more money than sense. You could get custom ones made over here out of whatever you wanted cheaper. Each to there own though but i think they are way too expensive for what they are.
burble
They are expensive but it makes the car more enjoyable to drive as I can now grab a paddle no matter how much steering lock I have on, so for me at least they're worth every penny.
