Smudge
Well I've had her for two weeks now & I can honestly say I'm really starting to enjoy life with my replacement (Sorry, new R32, as this was just a gesture of good will ) R32. Colour - as per everyones comment, the blue really does look the part. I get more looks than Jordan sunbathing in Covent Garden, but sometimes it's a bit unwanted. Had a "pursuit" in town after 4 days of ownership. Some lad with a modded MkIV thought he'd give it a go, but he didn't have a chance. About half a mile from my place there is a little run of short roads, at the end of all you can hook left or right. Needless to say, one left & one right hander & he gave up!! I drove for another 5 mins just to ensure I wasn't being followed from a distance being very much aware of the car jacking & TWOC that have occured of late. Alot of my driving is on the motorway. Funnily though, I've found a real disire to come of a jct or two early (if I know a back route) for a bit of a spin. The build quality feels completely different. The car is far more poised, & very smooth through the range. No signs what so ever of the problems I had with the Lemon. The car went to Ridgeway yesterday following an error on the ECU, and a couple of other things I was concerned about. Well at last I got some decent service. Dropped the car off at 7am ( ) to ensure I was in work on time. Confirmed all the bits I wanted checking (lights seemed low again , seat heaters now playing up , strange grinding from rear , and the MAF fault. Got to Ridgeway around 6.30 to collect & Brett (technician) popped up to see me. He has been allocated to look after the car. Explained everything he's done & discussed the grinding noise. NFF from there end (which was discussed earlier in the day following a courtesy / update call from Ridgeway) but we agreed that it could just be grit on the rear brakes as they were new. Wait & see. So, new car & happy. Have been toying with ideas on the mod side. Never wanted to commit with the lemon as it seemed like it would be a waste. Now, tints (but only light smoke cos of Black leather), Remap with Miltek, shortshift, stereo (nothing to OTT) but I do notice the difference between Gamma & Delta , and the W8 light change are on the list. I'm holding back on the remap, for two reasons. There seems to be a number of different options filtering through at the mo, so I want to try a see what is being offered. On top of that, I'm skint due to wanting to move house! W8 Light change & Tints with Supaglass are iminent, just gonna get Xmas out of the way. As for the ICE & shortshift, not really that hung up on it, but it's in the melting pot at least! I'm keen to learn a little more on what TOK has done with his before I really make a decission. So, so far so good, except for the feckin stone ships & dirty shite thats sticking like glue after the gritters have been out. I'm a happy man!! Al. shao_khan
sounds good mate - on the house front I have a 4 bed place in mk i am about to put on the market... I agree with you about the remap in fact whole modding front - with AMD, APR, VW RAcing (soon) and others now getting stuff onto the market it makes the decision far harder. Smudge
Sorry mate the plan is to move closer to "home" / London. Home previously being Reading. So instead of spending hours on the M1, I will spend hours on the M4.
Simon690
Glad to hear that you are happy with the new car and finally getting the service that someone who just spent £25K+ on a car deserves. Sounds like your concerns with your original car were fully justified if you can really feel a difference already. I just pity the poor sod that ends up with the Lemon. How can Ridgeway sell it and keep a clear conscience? Oh yeah, they are VW dealers, they don't have a conscience.
Smudge
Thanks Simon, saw the Lemon parked up out the front with the £19,995.00 price tag on her when I was there yesterday. I mentioned somewhere on hee when some pissed up tosser fell against her in Cardiff. Well he dented & scratched the car that night. Ridgeways attempt to sort it out is dire. Don't know if they would sort it once sold but you think they'd want it looking tip top eh?
ricsR32
Al, I live about 16km west of Reading......Reading, Pennsylvania, USA, that is. Good to hear you have a proper car now and can enjoy all that it is supposed to be. A few questions as you know we butcher the King's English over here and sometimes need a translation plus the fact we have different products available: 1. What is "tints with Supaglass?" Window tinting of some sort? 2. What is "ICE?" Thanks. Rick
TOK
AL74.. nice one with the new motor ... if you are looking at upgrading your stereo one thing that you may be interested in is a MP3 jukebox. I had an 80GB installed in mine recently and it is excellent!! its the Neo Jukebox ( Neo Jukebox ) and it really solves the problem of keeping a bunch of CDs stacked in the car.. I have my whole collection on this and I have barely used half my drive (Id say I have about 800 ish cds worth on there). The main unit fits in the back and there is a front facia that sits in the dash that contols the back unit. I ordered mine from the US but I found a website in the UK that also sells it and is even cheaper than the US one (I will try and dig the details out for that) it really is worth the money. I think I paid £200 for mine and you can also plug the unit into your home hi fi as well....I really do recommend this if you are planning an upgrade to the stereo. I also changed my headunit but it will also work with the standard Gamma or Delta..
gammaray27
[ QUOTE ] 1. What is "tints with Supaglass?" Window tinting of some sort? 2. What is "ICE?" Thanks. Rick [/ QUOTE ] HAHAHAHA!1 See?!?!? I'm not the only one that doesn't know what thery are talking about 1/2 the time. ICE I think is referring to their fancy shmancy Audio equiptment. and The tints are basically Window tinting. Also, they do clear tinting too so if someone tries to break the window and get in, it will shatter but no glass will actually break because tis laminated by the clear tint.
