Biscuits
After contemplating ordering a BMW Performance steering wheel, I thought I'd drop BMW a line to see if they were going to make M specific versions. Copy of email below: From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 15 October 2008 08:05 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: BMW Performance Steering Wheel & Exhaust Hi Paul, Thanks you for your email. Unfortunately there are no plans to develop an M version of the BMW Performance steering wheel or exhaust system due to the relatively small number of M customers compared to owners of non M models and the limited marketing opportunities this provides. Regards Aftersales Development From: Paul Wafer [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 14 October 2008 19:00 To: Aftersales Development Feedback Subject: BMW Performance Steering Wheel & Exhaust Dear Sir/Madam, I currently own an E92 M3 Coupe and would like to know if there are plans on making a M3 version of the BMW performance steering wheel and exhaust system? For the steering wheel it would be nice if the screen splashes up "MPower" instead of "BMW Performance" and the stitching is tri-colour like the standard fit M steering wheel not black. The current on on offer feels a bit of a downgrade from the M steering wheel. The standard M3 exhaust system is very muted (even if it is very free flowing), is there going to be a BMW approved accessory upgrade? Kind regards Paul I'm impressed that they got back to me in less than 24hrs... but I guess it's easy saying no. B.
tom_hargreaves
Not sure if this is what you might be after Paul, but I visited my local dealership at the weekend and they had an M3 which had a different steering wheel installed. It had the tri-colour stitching, suede grips (Like the CSL) and gear shift indicator lights (It was a manual) and a built in G-Meter at the top of the rim. It was the absolute nuts. Would recommend that?
Mook
Well at least they're being straight - no we're not doing it because there's no money in it. Imagine if you had a politician answering that question...

Would recommend that? That's the kiddie ! It's not listed in the BMW performace catalogue, so maybe they now have the tri-colour stitching? I'll drop my dealer another line (just ordered all the L7 speakers and trim bits for the audio upgrade). Cheers
tom_hargreaves
Well it definately exists, whether it's in the brochure or not. It looks good. Very F1'ish There's a picture here, with the front cover missing: MWDesign | BMW Performance Steering Wheel W/Shift Lights - an E90 First! - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum - E90Post.com EDIT: I might have been wrong with the tri-colour stitching? I'm 99% sure the one I saw had the red, purple and blue stitch colour! Edited October 15, 2008 by tom_hargreaves
Biscuits
I've just heard back from the dealer and they have confirmed the following: Firstly, sorry for delay in response, I can confirm the 3 sun protection window prices are £523.00 inc vat and a labour charge from Neal in workshop is over 3 hours at £581.00 total £1104 fitted ( poss less by £20-40) (NOT GOING FOR THAT UPGRADE THEN!!!) The Performance steering wheel is available for the UK market on 17th November at a cost of £663.00 plus fitting at £133.00. All numbers suppled have been checked and are applicable to your vehicle, please email or call with any questions. The wheel is suede on left and right with leather upper and lower section all models have same wheel. I have ordered the wheel, but will re-use the M3 plastic central cover, rather than the suede one as I think it looks a bit odd with leather at the top and bottom... can always swap them round if I change my mind. Hopefully I'll have it fitted for the track day at Brands on the 25th
max_b
good stuff, looks a nice bit of kit, nice to see someone commited to their car, when lots of others are worrying about depreciation, etc
Mollox
Biscuits, Did you get the wheel fitted in the end? Any pics?
Biscuits
Biscuits, Did you get the wheel fitted in the end? Any pics? Hi, No, didn't go for it as the budget is going elsewhere on the car... that and I don't really like the half leather, half alcantera. Would prefer just leather.
