wyliss
Hi, Welcome to TSN. A few basic pointers : 1. Throw out the sponges, get yourself a couple of lambswool wash mitts (www.sheepskinshop.co.uk - the sheepskin experts). 2. A decent shampoo is Duragloss, its slick, cleans well and gives an amazing shine. 3. Re polish, as a starter you cant really go wrong Auto Glym SRP. 4. Leathers...hmm. I am personally not a fan of them. get yourself a decent drying towel. I am sure News - Serious Performance do a 'Uber Drying Towel' that loads rave about over on Detailing World. All the above is just a start but let me warn you it gets obsessive !! HTH right i normally take muy car to the foreigners for a wash for 5 to 6 quid ago but i want to do it myself i wanna bring some life back to the paint work its a black golf and it has its fair share of stone ships what products would i need to start? a good shampoo, a good polish, some good sponges and leathers to dry it can anyone point me in the right direction thanks some TFR or summat even thought bout having it resprayed! looked on the meguiars website and well i dont know were to start. steelwind101
Hello I just purchased this kit for my cousin who just got his first car, its got everything you need. It costs £50 and there decent products The BH bundle! The only thing you might want to do is keep a spounge for washing the wheels and dry the wheels with your leather! The wax included here is one step product and very durable and looks good too, it will fill imperfections really well too! There is also some clay included which will really change the appearence of the car. The only thing you might want to buy is a "Quick Detailer", these help with drying and add some post wash "zing" back in to the paintwork. As for the stone chips, nothing beats and afternoon with touch up paint and a brush to sort them. Geoff
JonC
www.sheepskinshop.co.uk - the sheepskin experts Great tip, Dibbs. Thanks for sharing. Also got one of these Super Plush Drying Towel looks the same as the Uber ones?
steelwind101
Saltyham, that Bilt Hamber is good stuff. I helped my cousin apply today and as 1 stepper it really cleans up and the shampoo uses so little to do a wash its great. There are a number of the Super Plush towels on the market so i would hazard a guess there all cut from the same cloth. CG's also make products for Poorboys and about 50 other companies which are similar or the same formulas. The microfibre is the same as well as the MF covered foam apps. steelwind101
thanks for the advice. do you guys ever use TFR on your cars or does it bugger the paint work up or do you just use the jest wash then shampoo it. Most TFR's strip protection so unless you want to spend ages re applying it TFRs are a waste of time. It might be good to use them before you "detail", detailing is the process of claying, polishing and then protecting the car. ALot of people use Snow Foam which is more or less a protection friendly pretreatmeant that you can use every wash. It softens dirt on the car allowing it wash away easier. Most of all the techniques in detailing are about protecting the paintwork and not damaging the finish. They all tend to be less aggressive then alternative routes though the end results are much better. Do check out somewhere like elitecarcare.co.uk where you can search for foam lance, glimour foam gun and snow foam. Geoff

Very impressed with that kit. I ordered Sunday after seeing this post and it arrived first thing Tuesday morning, can't get much better than that. I gave the car a quick wash to try out all my new goodies, and that thick drying is soooo soft, highly recommended. :D
steelwind101
Hi Salt Ham! Glad the kit is working out, went to see my cousins car in the sun today and the BH wax had really brought it up a treat! Geoff
Steven944
always start from the top of the car and work down. and use a different sponge for the wheels. Also, a proper pressure washer (not a puny B&Q type thing) is excellent for cleaning the arches of built up gunk !
