Bang Olufsen vs BOSE in New A4 / Avant

Only in the S5 I drove a couple of months ago. I've got Bose in my S4 Avant. It's very hard to tell the difference, but the sound is clearer with the B&O system - bass is about the same.

In the Avant, the speakers are in the rear doors and the sub is in the boot (you can stick the sub pretty much anywhere and it'll make very little difference.

I had a loaner 3.0TDi Saloon with B&O. My current A3 SB has Bose.

I liked and prefferred the B&O to my Bose as it sounded deeper in quality. The B&O also had a focus option to allow time delays from the speakers to simulate a stero effect at the driver position even though the real stero location would be the gear stick

  • 2 months later...

I'm pondering whether to spec B&O on a B8 Avant.

Are there any more thoughts on whether it's worth the cash?

On my B6, the Bose saloon system sounded far better than the Bose avant which I've always assummed is partly down to internal accoustics (possibly) but mainly that there's no rear shelf for the sub.

Since the Bose avant was dissapointing to my ears am I gonna be unhappy if I don't spec B&O?

p.s. Where are all the B8 owners ??

That's definately the plan.

I know most audiophiles are Bose haters where as I always found it fine in the TT and S4.

It's either totally personal or I'm just not sound educated enough +++

I've always found that the smaller the car (e.g. TT/911) the poorer BOSE tends to sound. Whereas in a big car (say Q7 or A8) BOSE sounds very good indeed.

I've had experience of B&O in recent Audi's and would say it is a very good system indeed...especially for a larger car like the B8 A4 avant.

Of the several B8's we've sourced all had the B&O and the feedback was all very positive.

Hope that helps??

cheers,

Gareth

Same here - I had a non-Bose A4 and it sounded rubbish compared to my Bose S4s and RS4 (all Avants).

I know lots of people like what I see as excessive bass, but I like to hear my music as it would sound if I stood next to real instruments - so the over-enhanced bass that is the norm at most popular music concerts (which is most people's reference point) sounds totally wrong to me.

The Bose system in my Allroad was brilliant. Loads of bass and a decent sound.

But as said above, sit in both cars and compare the Bose and B&O when you're driving them (not just when they're in the showroom!).

I would say the Audi dealer needs to work on it if you're going to be spending £xxxx on a sound system upgrade.

my opinion is that the B&O isn't worth the money over the bose.

If the difference was double (£), then i might (might!) just go for it, but the Bose in my Q7 ticks all the boxes.. it's excellent...

I heard the B&O in my mates R8 and i wouldn't pay £1000's extra for it.. on something that will hold no value when you come to trade in.

I looked on their site and could only see images of saloons i.e. not pics of where the sub goes although I'm assuming it's in the rear side space

My dealers planning to bring an Avant around on Wednesday to try in our garage and I'm pretty sure it's got B&O so I've give it a crank whilst it's here .... and post up my opinion of course +++

I had a B8 saloon loaner whilst my RS was in for suspension work over CHristmas. I like the BOSE system however I will say the B&O has better clarity and range, BOSE can sometimes be too bassy.

If I had the chance I would get B&O next time around but the price premium does concern me.

Most of the posts I've rear (TT and A4) are the Bose is all treble and bass and you can't get decent mid-range.

Many really hate it :

Better Off with Something Else

Buy Other Sound Equipment

Bring Own Stereo Equipment

It all depends what you're expecting I guess plus we all hear things differently.
