davyk31
My sis in law needs to control the internet activities of her 8 year old son as he is becoming educated a little too quickly shall we say. Whats the best way of achieving this ? I think the machine is an Apple Mac if that makes any difference. They are with BT Internet I believe, are there controls through that or other packages? All advice appreciated.

Sponge
My sis in law needs to control the internet activities of her 8 year old son as he is becoming educated a little too quickly shall we say. Whats the best way of achieving this ? Is there not some form of parental control in whichever browser is being used? It might be basic, but it's a start. There are other options too. Is the PC in his bedroom? If so, then remove it. Put it somewhere public, e.g. the living room, so there's always someone monitoring when it's being used. The threat of someone walking past at any moment should act as a deterrent against him visiting undesireable websites. pontyslapper
Sit with him - make the internet so uncool that he loathes it. Then he'll just use it in school where its so heavily monitored and controlled all they seem to do is play crappy Flash games and try to get on Bebo. I'd include a screen shot - but this Mac is running 10.4.11.
davyk31
I haven't seen it yet but guess its 2 or 3 years old so not the latest version. Also to answer a previous poster no it is not in his bedroom and is already in a public area.
