Dirtbag1981
Hi guys, I have a 52 plate S3 BAM engine 106K, I have noticed an issue with the turbo recently. When I accellerate "occasionially" it lags and the car judders with the engine management light flashing on and off, the turbo works, its just if I wanted to "give it some" it judders or blips intermittently. Up until now the turbo was lagless and smooth, the car is booked in for a service, the cambelt was done at 85k. What could the problem be ? Mac
Either your MAF needs cleaning (search on MAF) or could it be your coil packs are on their way out?
Dirtbag1981
Thanks, I had all 4 coils replaced about a ear ago as the original ones were going one by one, so i replaced the rest. Ok , so a MAF sensor how much will this cost to sort out please ? thanks DB
Steven944
A MAF sensor is about £80 if memory serves and can be fitted in less than 5 mins - even by a spanner like me. My TT had the same sort of faults and the MAF sorted it - like driving a different car after it was changed. An Audi dealer should be able to check on their diagnostics for you in minutes. davidhodgkinson
One thing to try is to remove the cable to the MAF and then try the car. If it runs "better" than it starts to suggest the MAF
Mollox
Yes, the car will have a default set of readings it can revert to should it not get a signal from the MAF - hence disconnecting it is a very straightforward first level diagnosis. The check engine light flashing sounds unusual - I thought it came on and stayed on until reset? There are a lot of pipes/hoses on the S3 and hole/loose fit on any of these can lead to the sort of issues you are experiencing. From experience, these dont normally show up on a simple VAG-COM diagnostic check. Has the car been remapped?
EssFour
I had a similar problem on mine andf it turned out to be a hose and a defective recirculating valve
