aligaus
Hi All 3 years ago - I had to have the head gasket replaced in the car as it went, preceeded by the 'STOP check coolant' warning light followed by billowing smoke! Anyhow all has been fine since then except when the temperature outside the car falls to below 4 degrees C! Then the 'STOP check coolant' warning light comes on unitll the car warms up. I then turn off the engine and turn it on again and all is fine, with no warnings! I presume the coolant isn't the problem when it's only 2 degrees outside although saying that - I know very little about cars!! Could it simply be a computer problem? It goes great and is up to date with servicing and antifreeze etc. Any ideas gratefully recieved. Ali
cruiser647
Welcome to TSN! I presume the coolant is up to the right level when cold? Check the levels when cold and hot and see if there is s big difference. Any smoke?
burble
I had this problem on my MkIV Golf, it ended up being a faulty sensor in the coolant expansion tank. Replacing the tank (under warranty) sorted it.
Cuprabob
I too had this on a Seat Leon and it was the coolant sensor in the expansion tank. Unfirtunately, the whole expansion needs to be changed but the good news is that it was less than £20. From what I've read it's a very common problem
sotty
Same here with my Golf IV, from around Oct to March I get the warning on really cold mornings. Ive checked my coolant and its concentration and alls well. As above I heard its the sensor that plays up. Mines been like it for 2 years, best get it sorted one day !
