Mook
Well the season was pretty spectacular and running down to the wire on the last corner was great watching, but has Hamilton done what a lot of people feared he would (me included) in getting too big for his boots already? I've got no idea which paper interviewed him, but it's been reported on the news this morning that he's going for another 2 world champtionship titles and if he does he gets a $5M McLaren LM (whatever one of those is). Now it could be standard UK press interviewing technique and editorial twisting, but, IIRC, none of the previous world champions have said how many championships they're going to be going for. And why would he stop at 3 titles? Edited November 4, 2008 by Mook
AudiPartner
Good to set targets and think positive! He needs to buck up his ideas though, based on the latter part of this season it does appear Massa is probably just as likely, if not more likely, to take it next year. Mook
Good to set targets and think positive! I completely agree with that, but why say 2 more? Why not say that you're targetting winning more championships?
BURTON
Maybe to set a 2 year goal and then go from there... But who knows.
EssFour
Not sure what news agency you used Mook. But check out the BBC website. It actually has the video interview. Basically Ron Denis has promised LH a past McClaren F1 car, possibly Sennas, valued at 5m if he wins 3 WDC. Hence him saying he wants to win 3. Mook
Radio 4 at 6.30 So has the media twisted what he's actually said, or has The Sun done its own, separate interview?
BURTON
There's a reason to win 3.
Mook
I completely get that
gizze
Because Mercedes have said they would give him a $5m Marclaren LM if he wins 3 titles, so he has joked that his next target is 3 wins. Nothing more than that I reckon.

theduisbergkid
You need to include the original interview before judging 'his' comment Mook. The press love to build 'em up, then knock 'em down, and just about anything said can be twisted into something else. Here's something from the BBC - a pretty anodyn interview but on the same subject as the one you mention, but LH doesn't come across as 'too big for his boots' to me. In fact, given he's only 23 and has just won the F1 title, he seems pretty modest IMO -http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7706496.stm
gizze
It was the same with Murray, when an English reporter ribbed him about whether he bothered supporting a national football team, what with being Scottish and all, he quipped back "whoever England are playing of course!". Rather than the 'British' press picking up on some quite wit, they turned it around and halved his fan base over night. Well done!

patently
He's looking a lot more modest that I would have done if I had won the F1 driver's championship at the age of 23 ....

byron13
Have to admit in this case I don't think he is being cocky or arrogant, just that he REALLY wants that car and like any school boy he has a reward / results arrangement with his teacher!! Only kidding I really think he is fine saying that and why not, I have no issue with ambition just don't like the I am better than the others comments. shark_90
I read an article on the train on Tuesday and it mentioned the 3 wins thing.. a very good way to motivate a young, enthusiastic and success-hungry person IMO. As others have said, he is very cool and collected to say he just won the title at 23!
Calm Chris
The car was mentioned before last season failure to win the title, so it's an old 'carrot'. Since the suggestions are that he will earn in excess of £100m over the next 10 years (subject to staying alive) I think he is motivated enough anyway.
