gammaray27
I am anxiously awaiting my R32. Sitting here in my computer chair, reading till 2 or sometimes 4:30am, about how you are all ranting and raving about it. I'm SO excited to trade my anniversary car for it. I can't fecking wait. The only dissapointing thing about thole deal is that the US alloted R32s will be coming with no front bumper lower lip protectors, and different suspension. Is there ANY WAY, any of you guys can call up your dealership parts department and find out a few part numbers for me? I need to know: -Is the front lower lip (under the front bumper) a seperate piece thats attachable later and something I can add on to the US spec bumper, and does it have a seperate part number and is it something I can order? -All the part numbers for the front struts and springs, and the rear struts and springs as well, and any other parts in the suspension that would have changed from the Euro version to US spec. Maybe the dealer might know? If not, I just need the part numbers. My local dealer said they MIGHT be able to order them for me from the UK, or germany or something. If they arent able to order these parts for me, is there any way that I can PayPal one of you guys the full amount for the parts and shipping, and then have you ship me the parts via FedEx, or something reliable??? I would be so completely estatic!!!!! I would also probably be able to thank you in person with a few beers or something when I eventually make it out there for Holiday.... Err.. Vacation. (Maybe this summer?!?! I'm working on it) There might be a few other things I might want to order as well, but we'll see what they are, after I get the R. Thanks so much!!! -=GR
shao_khan
I dont know if the R32 is covered on the newer versions of theEkta CD yet - if it is then that will make it very easy for you. OUr dealers wouldnt know the difference between US and UK spec - our dealers barely know the spec of a UK car as it is!!!! I just rang a mate in a local part dept and they are shut now, but I will try to give him a call either next week (if they are open) or when I get back from the Vegas. Another thing you might want to try is to see what bits one of the race teams throws away (like www.volkswagenracing.co.uk) as they may be willing to sell you stuff if they dont use it on a track car - not sure. Anyway - more than willing to help, but everyone has stopped working here pretty much, so I'll try next week. Remind me as I do have a bad memory!! Simon690
Do you mean I don't have those on my car! There are mounting holes but no extra bits of black plastic. Have I been robbed??

Gti_Fly
The under bumper strips are infact part of the plastic undertray and not a seperate part. a uk undertray shouldnt be that expensive at a guess.

gammaray27
Thanks mate!!! So the front undertray? Thats what its called? I wonder if its molded to the bumper, and if it'll even FIT on a US bumper. Does anyone have any under engine pictures of that area of the car so i can see what it looks like? Thanks for the help so far, anyone else got info? -=DC
Gti_Fly
Just like on every other golf, there is a plastic undertray shielding the engine. It's the same on the R32. The R32's undertray is abit bigger than stock golfs, as it screws onto the bumper and covers the entire width of the car. Sorry I did have the part number once (when I took it off) but Now i've lost it! I would get it for you, but the undertray is secured with 24 or 25 individual torx screws, so it wasn't a quick job undoing it just to get the oil filter off!!! I'm sure you can get the part number off of Ekta or a dealer.

gammaray27
Hmmmm.. still trying to find out Part numbers... Can anyone get the part numbers for all the struts and Springs and whatnot? Also the front undertray with the lip (the black thing under the front bumper) -=GR
Simon690
Gamma, The part number for the under tray (which included the parts that extend under the front bumper) is 1J0825231 and the cost is £220 inc tax and a handful of fixings to screw it to the car (about $360). My stealer (Citygate Chalfont) tried to tell me that this is an optional part that I would have to pay for! I called VW customer service (technical part dept.) and they confirmed that this is complete and that the dealer should have noticed that it was missing during the PDI and that it can be fitted under warranty. Citygate said that they had other cars which do not have the tray so I suggest that everyone should check their cars to make sure that they have it. I think the are now ordering multiple under trays s. Sounds like VW QA has let them down again
gammaray27
YES! Thanks!!! Now, if someone would just pretend not to have your undertray and lip, then VW will fit one under warranty, and you can ship me the one that came with your car! hehehe lol Cheers! I'll see what I can do about ordering it through VWoA.

[/ QUOTE ] Citygate only gave me the one part number, maybe there is more missing off my car which they are not telling me about (they are acting very suspiciously about the whole thing ). Anyhow, VW are paying so I don't care what the cost is.
gammaray27
Simon.... could you get the part numbers for all 4 springs, and all four struts/shocks? Maybe with a quick phone call? Would be GREATLY helpful if I'm able to get the correct part numbers, so I can order the parts from Europe.
Simon690
Here you go Springs Front 1J0411105EB £50 each + tax @ 17.5% Rear 1J0511115AH £50 Shocks Front 1J0413031FA £76 Rear 1J0513025BF £44 There is no guarantee that these components will fit a US spec R32 as there are a number of other parts (particularly on the front) which differ from the standard set up such as the lower wishbones, wheel hub, etc. If the US cars have the correct wishbones etc. then you should be OK. The only way to tell is to go to a dealer and sit down in front of the parts computer and work out what the US car has on it. As a minimum you should verify that the lower wishbone is a different part from standard (the R32 part has a bend in it so that even with the lower ride height it sits parallel to the road and does not induce excessive static camber). The rear is easier as this is a standard 4Motion set up with bigger brakes. If you want to talk to a UK dealer take your pick from this lot but don't expect a lot of deep technical knowlegde, my experience is that they don't understand or know the R32 at all well. gammaray27
You are a god! Thanks SO MUCH! I have been wondering about the bend in the front suspension, and wondering how they got around the problem of the "roll center" of having such a low suspension. I suppose its almost like having dropped spindles in the front? NOw I just need to find someone who can order this stuff for me. Still trying to find a way for the dealership to get em.... Otherwise my friend Christian that just moved out there might be able to I guess. Thanks again! I'm SOO excited. I just ordered my custom licence plates. "UBER GLF" TTYL -=GR Heres a picture of the front suspension on the US R32.. Does it look the same as yours? ALSO- Notice there is no lower tray with Lip! Can someone post a picture from their R32 just like this so we can compare?
Busby
Gamma I'm happy to order the parts for you and ship them over if you need someone to. I might even be able to save you the shipping as quite a few of my mates visit LA quite regularly and I will be out there later in the year. So, dependant on timing, I could bring them out myself or get a mate to take them. Let me know. I need to see my dealer next week so I will ask about prices when I am there. Simon690
You may be able to source the parts direct in the US. The dealer I talked with here had a number of spring and damper combinations listed for the R32 and the "non-standard" parts may be what are used in non-Euro markets such as the US. So your dealer may be able to see the Euro parts in his EKTA system and order them direct for you.

graeme86
did you notice that us golfs have an open right hand front grill and in your gallery shot DSCF0009 (http://www.tyresmoke.net/gallery/albuo20?&page=1) you appear to have a closed right hand grill. The Australian ones have an open grill with what appears to be an oil cooler inside.(set back about 20 cm from grill). Do the Yank ones have an oil cooler as well but not the uk cars?
