bugsymania
Hi, I am thinking of getting my wheels refurbed as 3 of them have been curbed and are starting to corrode pretty bad. I know that Lepsons seems to be the place to go, but was hoping to get them done a little closer to home. Does anyone know of any places in the North of England who can refurb Monza's to the original diamond cut finish? I have spoken to one alloy refurbisher in Leeds who said that the best they could do would be a mirrorred finish.
silentandy
See if there's any local Pristine Wheels agents in your area as they sometimes offer an exchange service while being done. Pristine Alloy Wheels » News I've just had a couple of mine done with them and they've come back looking great, can hardly tell they've been refurbed. JonC
I had one of my Monza's refurbed once, and it came back looking like a refurb, so now if I scuff one, a new one gets bought. I know they're £380 a pop and I'm not trying to sound all brash and blasay, but personally, I insist on alloy perfection.
RedRobin
^^^^ Not a lot over £380 will get all your 4 Monzas refurb'd and powdercoated by Pristine, and an end to the dreaded white worm starting every Winter. That's what I'm doing.
JonC
You going for the charcoal grey look, RR?
RedRobin
You going for the charcoal grey look, RR? ....No, it's called "Sterling half-face" - A sort of metallic light grey not unlike how the original Monzas look in some light conditions - Difficult to describe but I visited Pristine. Similar to the Ed30 stock alloy colour.
Tarmac_Terrorist
Hi RR, are you painting the whole wheel that colour or do you plan to keep the inserts / inside of the wheel the dark grey colour? Look forward to seeing some pics of those in due course Phil
robsales
have a look on web for a company called PERFECTION ALLOYS..... they will refurb monza 2's and they will look like new!!! think they're based in leicester but all their guys drive vans and visit you, think price for a monza 2 is £70 plus vat!!!! JonC
I'll check them out. When I had my Monza II refurb'd, they usual OEM silky smooth grey inserts came back "grainy" and coarse looking although smooth to the touch. It just looked refurb'd and it was a well-known company that did it, too. That was enough to put me off for life!

Certainly pics in due course but my suspension is next (failed KoniFSD's).

RedRobin
Failed FSDs? What's happened to them? ....Gone a bit soft/bouncy after about 56k miles - They are the earlier version. My VW dealer has inspected them (free of charge and with me present) and there's no leakage. Jim of JKM, Kev of Revo (who has loads of track and suspension experience), and Mark of VW Racing (who road tested my car for 170 miles after fitting the Quaife), have all INDEPENDENTLY commented on it. Even I noticed something was wrong! The FSD's will go back to Koni in Holland for bench testing and I'll be expecting a new sealed box of their latest FSD's from them in due course. Meanwhile, I was out yesterday driving this with my proposed new suspension installed on it : - ^ And yes!! To answer your questions - It IS fully loaded with about 300 bhp, Quaife, racing clutch, short shift stick, cams, full engine mounts, etc etc etc and (from the driver's seat) makes the most glorious sounds I've EVER heard from a 4-pot turbo - Race car sound which you don't need ear-plugs for! Forget any radio though! You are enjoying yourself far too much for such distractions. It's been setup with the suspension I've been discussing with VWR for myself (plus a huge amount of their expert advice) - Tailor-made based on KW Clubsport. Hence why I was driving it. :notworthy:
JonC
Great looking car; not sure about the front end design, though. Having said that, would love to drive it - 300 ponies and muchos mods! Sexy alloys too.
JonC
There must be a huge FMIC behind that deep front end. Uprated turbo, RR?
RedRobin
There must be a huge FMIC behind that deep front end. Uprated turbo, RR? ....Stock intercooler - The race cars use stock intercoolers and so do the race Cupra's. K04 turbo.
Tarmac_Terrorist
That's one impressive car I like the front end (bumper / splitter arrangement). Very stealthy for a heavily modded car.

J.I.F.
I do referbs for a living. Any idea what colour the Monza's are as standard? Doing a 54 plate on Friday and want to get a colour match.
Tarmac_Terrorist
The face of them are just polished and lacquered finish (not powder coated) - not many companies refurb these for what I understand. The inset bits are a shade of mid / dark grey but nobody seems to have ever established a paint number. Even VW are unable to help! Here is a piccy of mine:
