AudiLad
I was washing the car today and noticed the clear plastic covers over the xenon headlights. I've only had the beloved Gti a couple of weeks and havn't noticed these! I took them off to see what it was all about and the lights and sidelights look so much brighter, clear, sharper and not to mention gorgeous! I've clipped them back on for now but just wondering is it really risky if I take them off? What do most of you guys do? Keep them on or off? JonC
I didn't know they had them!
AudiLad
Have you got them on yours?
JonC
I'm pretty confident I don't. Unless, of course, this protective film is very well hidden.
Oli
headlight protectors??
petsy
The head light protectors are over the counter VW accessories. They are not supposed to be used with xenon lights but those that have ignored this advice have so far not come to any grief.
JonnyGTi
have you any photos ? would be interested to see what they look like and how they clip on

JonC
So they have a silver etched edge to them?
AudiLad
No they don't have a silver etching. There not a film, just a thick plastic cover that clips over your headlights, look pretty ugly to me. I thought these were designed for the xenons as they are expensive to replace? Can't see anybody buying the protective covers for normal headlights? I'd love to take them off, takes 2 seconds to clip on/off but need to know what the risk is and whether we are supposed to keep these on for xenons headlights
AudiLad
have you any photos ?would be interested to see what they look like and how they clip on I'll try taking some photos after work depending on lighting. Best way to describe them would be as similar to putting an extra lens on top of your glasses
TwoSheds
have you any photos ?would be interested to see what they look like and how they clip on They cost £38 per pair & its a personal choice thing whether to leave on....How much is a replacement xenon headlight unit if you were unlucky enough to get one damaged by road debris ? AudiLad
Considering the complexities of xenon headlights (compared to normal headlights) the cost would be high I would imagine. Doesn't mention whether they are suitable for xenon headlights or not?
JonC
They look pretty naff, IMO. Better off than on, I would say.

AudiLad
That's what I do now. Long distance motorway or country road trips I will keep on as I don't think it makes a difference to the strength of the light. I'll take them off in the summer when theres less shite on the road
Calm Chris
They were/ are available for Mk4's and Mk5's. My R32 Mk4 required £495 worth of cost to replace the OS xenon due to a stone. So £35+ a pair or £495 a lamp  Your choice. It's a fable that xenons will over heat due to the extra cover, that's bs
AudiLad
When you put it like that...I'll take the £35 option!
