Ds eeley
My 1999 td1 sport passat has done 145,000 miles. The engine seems to run good but when i accelerate from low revs through a gear, anything from third to fifth, when it reached about 5000 revs it seems to rev like you have your foot on the clutch. If you stop accelerating, the revs drop and generally it start work normally again. can anyone tell what might be causing this. When accelerating it can also seem to splutter or misfire for a second and then carries on fine. Any ideas? Cheers

cruiser647
I meant 2000 rpm Was about to ask why do you rev a diesel to 5K! As there is no point. I sounds like it could be a dirty MAF. It's the air meter to let the engine ECU know much air is coming in and then adjusting accordingly. These are about £50 on exchange from a proper VW indy shop. Don't bother with the cheaper ones. An alternative could be the air hoses. Might be loose or have a hole. You'd need to follow them to find it and replace the hose. Good luck!
