valleys caveman
Hi everyone, ive a problem with my passat tdi 2003, every now and again the speedo stops working which also effects the fuel guage making it beep every 5 seconds or so, and indicates theres no fuel (tank is half full) any ideas lads? Thanks
shark_90
Hmm, sounds like a dodgy instrument cluster to me. I've replaced a couple of these but not on Passats. The TT instrument clusters tend to fail a lot as do Skoda Octavia ones.
valleys caveman
Thanks for the reply mate. Problem happened last year for a day or two, but last few days its happened neally everytime ive been in car. Can also hear a noise coming from glovebox, it sounds like a cd player trying to load a cd unsuccesfully (is this where ECU is?)

valleys caveman
also got a noise cming from glovebox (sounds like a cd that wont load, a sort of scratchy noise) could this be the ECU ?
shark_90
No the ECU is under the bonnet where the wipers are. Weird noise though! Do you have climate control or manual air con?

Ive got climate control mate. Inside the glovebox is a nozzle type thingy, might be climate control re-gas. It maybe a coincidence but the speedo played up on the hottest day last year. shark_90
No idea what that valve is but the speedo playing up when it's hot is quite common as the cluster heats up and everything expands which will show up a dry solder joint/damaged component or other similar fault. valleys caveman
Is it a easy fix? how much would it cost (roughly) to sort it out (in a garage)
shark_90
Depends. I usually do dashboard swaps for £65 if you supply the dash. Best place to get one is a breakers. A new dash is £500+ and a dealer won't fit a 2nd hand dash, although I am quite happy to
