Longing for a saloon
First post here and hoping someone can give me some advice. Recently my 54 Reg Passat Trendline 100 has had the emissions workshop message appear. It's not 100% of the time but it's more often than not. Should I be calling the bank manager for an extension to the overdraft? I've taken a quick look around the forums here and see that some people have VAGCOM software and can hook this up with the right kind of cable. As I will be keeping the car for the next 3-4 years, would this be money well spent and has anyone an idea of costs?
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke You can buy VCDS (formerly VAG-COM) for about £300 IIRC - details and distributors are on the Ross-Tech site Ross-Tech: Home and you can buy it via one of their distributors Ross-Tech: Distributor List but any independent VW specialist should be able to tell you what's up. The Emissions Workshop message doesn't always mean your catalytic converter is FUBARd - it can be lots of things from a coil pack to the lambda probe, to the cat. ajnabi
Had this on my 54 Passat TDi 130 Sport. I used to get this warning off and on too.. Most of the time with cold starts not after a long drive! VAGCOM reported Engine Coolant Temp Sensor. Replaced ... all good. Coolant Temp. Sensor 059 919 501 A approx. 25.00 Old is black ... new(above) is green. Hope this helps.
