xone
Hi there, great forum etc, been a great help with info and so on but now need to ask some direct questions. I'm currently running a 1.9 TDI passat 100 bhp, I'm about to get the ECU remapped by a company called Angel tuning in lemmington, anyone heard of them?? good/bad reputation? They come to my house to do the tune for £225, didn't think that was bad. They reckon it'll have an extra 40bhp and another 55/60 p/f torque? Not sure I heard right with the torque figure but any thoughts? I've already exchanged the air filter for a K&N panel jobbie, couldn't find an induction kit, and as much as there isn't anything significant with that I've deffo niticed a increase, albeit slight, in pick up. Next thing I was thinking of doing was fitting an intercooler, it currently dosen't have one and wondered if one can be fitted and which would be the best to go for and why? Thanks in advance. Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke xone 40bhp is over-optimistic on that engine. You'll get an increase to about 130bhp and an extra 30-35 ft/lb of torque.
shark_90
Definitely over optimistic (isn't that always the case).
xone
Thought 40 bhp might be on the optomisitc side when you see "upto" 30 bhp quoted everywhere else. Also a concern! Have read on other forums that K&N's aren't all that good for TDI's in particular they knacker the MAF's, Anyone know weather this is true? shark_90
It's one of those things where some people say they do yet others have had no problems whatsoever. Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer!
Mook
There's no point fitting a K&N to an engine like that. All you'll do is get more indiction noise. Stick your standard filter back on.

Mook
I read that, Xone, but it won't make any difference to the performance. If you want a car mapped, I would either get an expert to do it, or borrow a rolling road for the day and set it up. If you mess up the fuelling, you'll make a sorry mess of the engine. No, it really isn't. Most of the kit you'll buy are chinese knock-offs and will more likely screw your ECU than map it. And the maps that come with them are a receipe for disaster. It'll probably take you 3-4 years to learn how to map a diesel ECU properly.
mooch
Hi There If you are in Leamington, whey not scoot down to MRC tuning at Banbury- they will cost a bit more, but you will get the very best results by one of the best tuners in europe- a couple of my buddies have got chip fat expresses as their daily run arounds- one has a 3.0l A6 avant, MRC tweeked to over 300bhp and well over that on TQ, and another has an A3 2.0tdi 170 tweeked to 240bhp....... mooch
I hope you're on commission with a glowing statement like that. Heheh, actually, no, they will not touch my car.... It is a "rival" Rs specialists, so, no, sadly no commission. I just try to tell it like it is- after all, we all love our cars and want the best for them, and even tho my RS6 is tuned by A N Other, I believe that MRC are the best at oil burners for sure...... ccampbell
Hi I recently got my car, Nissan Primera 2002 tdi, remapped, however I am now experiencing problems with the car. I have had to replace the clutch and now it is making a tapping noise from under the engine block, the steering is also sluggish and you have to stamp HARD on the brakes to get them to work. Any ideas what the problem is? When I first wanted to get it remapped the company told me that they couldn't do it as the computer showed a leak in the inter-cooler however when taking it to get the inter-cooler fixed another company couldn't find a problem with it so we got it remapped. I have been told it could be the turbo that has gone but how would this effect my brakes???? Any ideas I don't want to be out loads of money fixing the bloody thing!!! shark_90
I don't know anything about the hydraulic systems in a Primera but it is perfectly feasible for the brake and power steering problem to be related. I would speak to a Nissan specialist if you get the chance.
