Marc R
We got an Audi A8 4.2 2003 and I would like to make the exhaust just a little louder without changing the rear muffler. I recall that i've read an article/thread somewhere about the Phaeton 4.2 having a slightly different exhaust than the A8 making the exhaust note just a little more noticable.. Does someone know some more about this? Thanks in advance.

Marc R
Thanks! Just a little deeper sound would be nice.
cruiser647
Does the H/X pipe make any difference? H/X pipe might slightly change the character of the exhaust note AND helps the exhaust flow. Fits just after the cats (IIRC). A few bods on here have them on their D2 A8's. Mook
Thanks! Just a little deeper sound would be nice. There's someone on here with a custom made exhaust. All depends on your budget of course, but, if you're prepared to change the back box for a non chav one, then Milltek is probably your best option. Marc R
It's not really a matter of budget but keeping the car as original as possible. But the exhaust is really REALLY silent,as you guys know. My thought was to delete a mid section muffler. Although I have never seen the underside of the A8 so I don't know if it has one...or more.. trikezx6r
I have a Milltek Cat back on my D2 S8..Looks standard but gives the V8 the rumble it deserves without having a boy racer bark. I'm sure Milltek will just sell you a back box. Not the cheapest option but probably the best developed exhaust on the market
Harrikent
I have a 1997 D2 S8 which has a complete custom exhaust system, including cats and a fairly standard looking tailpipe. Sounds fantastic, does have a slightly boomy resonance at a particular engine speed, but I just drop a gear, or go up a gear, if it irritates. System done by Powerspeed in Kent (powerspeed.co.uk). Crossover pipe makes a big difference on its own, so I'm told.
