bodger00
I have toy'd with the idea of having a Revo stage one for years. Coming round to the thinking that it may not bugger the car up and shred the tyres quicker than another annoying advert arrives on the telly. So I was thinking to those of you who have had a Revo stage one done on a mk5 gti, what do you wish you had known, before you had it done? Cheers+++
JonC
The GTI is a great car, no question. It only gets better when remapped. Always best complimented by better breathability and a decent exhaust. Bang for buck is unreal. A remapped GTI is how it should have left the factory in the first place. Do it, you won't regret it
Calm Chris
I wish I'd known about.... before I had it Revo'd That your insurance Co will be all 'ears' when you tell them and depending on the Co will hike your premium between 5%-25% That VW warranty may become nulled. That it could devalue the car, and is best removed before onward sale (many prospective owners consider the car will have had a harsher life / has been boy race driven). Tipex
I wish I'd known about... The trial maps fecking everything up if you choose not to go for the map.
shark_90
I wish I'd known about.... Shark Performance before I had it Revo'd Better priced, can actually be switched back to standard (unlike Revo) and doesn't mess around with unneccesary parts of the ECU. I run a 2.0T Octavia vRS myself (exactly the same engine as in your GTi) and surely you can't get a better demonstration of product confidence than that! RedRobin
.... I didn't remap for a long time and after lots of research. I chose Revo and had Stage1 for about 18 months and was very happy with it. I then upgraded to stage2 and was pre-release testing the Revo DSG remap and now have the production version. Revo is very well established and their support network is excellent. You won't shred the tyres etc unless that's the style of your driving! You'll naturally explore its extra performance at first but then settle down. On a real-world road basis the biggest advantage is the quicker overtake and the better ability to get away from pockets of potential trouble created by your very average road user. With Power comes Responsibility!
JonC
There are specialist insurance companies that are mod-friendly and who don't hike the premium each time a mod is added. You'll be surprised at how little the difference in premium is, but I guess age, post code and endorsments will play a large part in the premium. Jack_is_Back
Nothing. My only regret is that I should not have put it off for so long!
