Hello... for those that don't know, I'm Nathan an I run Cambridge Autogleam: Car Detailing and Paint Correction Specialists.

After 17 pages and over 21000 viewings on the old thread, I thought it would be best to start 2010 with a fresh thread.

First off is a Porsche 997 that was detailed for sidicks off this forum as part of our January price offer (which has been extended into February as well.)

The car was booked in for a Gloss Enhancement Detail

...and then across to Tring for this brand new Nissan GTR. Delivered over to Nick at AMI ([email protected]) for a full Ventureshield installation to protect the front end and all leading edges from stone chips.

Car was given a full wash, The doors and rear quarters needed some localised correction and then the car was given 2 coats of Vintage wax. The engine bay was wiped over and dressed, wheels sealed in and out and the interior was cleaned.

A quick trip over to Northampton on Tuesday to detail this brand new GT Silver GT3. The car was booked in for a new car protection detail so once the car was washed the paint was carefully checked for defects. As usual with new Porsche's the paint was very good with just a few small areas showing buffer trails and minor swirling.

Small bits of blue tape reminding me where the defects are.

Then the first of 3 layers of protection were applied. The first was blackfire paint sealant applied by DA machine

PetersPorsche997GT3-08.jpg

While that was curing on the car the wheels were sealed with blackfire metal sealant

on the face...

PetersPorsche997GT3-09.jpg

and on the inner rim (had to roll the car forwards and back to get round the massive callipers)...

PetersPorsche997GT3-10.jpg

The tyres were dressed with blackfire long life tyre gel...

PetersPorsche997GT3-11.jpg

The sealant was then buffed off and left for an hour or so while I washed another car ready for a full correction detail next Friday. Then applied the 1st layer of Zymol Vintage wax. Wheel sealant was buffed off and interior cleaned. Then the 1st layer was removed and a 2nd applied about 40 mins later and buffed right at the end of the day after packing everything away.

Total working time... about 9 hours.

Had this Clio 182 Trophy in for a few days back in January. Being solid non metallic I was expecting the paint to be on the softer side.... WRONG! It turned out to be very hard paint indeed and took a lot longer to polish than expected.

Some of the defects before polishing

Hi Nathan, what products did you use on the paintwork of that Clio?

Looks fab!+++

BLACKFIRE WET DIAMOND ALL FINISH PAINT PROTECTION. Its an amazing sealant

Awesome pictures as always!

BTW is this the infamous Simon George's (of EVO) Lambo in the background?

PetersPorsche997GT3-12.jpg

Nope another guy owns these.

Great pics bud. Does Nick have a GTR now or was that just at his place?

No that was just another car he was applying Ventureshield to. Are you going to have your RS done when it comes?

This owner contacted me before xmas as he was unhappy with the finish on his solid red GTR. When I inspected the car I was shocked at how soft the paint was and how easily it marked, even with just a clean finger wiped with little pressure across a clean panel.

This being the first red GTR I have worked on I'm not sure if this is a one off or if all the solid colour GTRs suffer from this but I can see why so many GTR owners have been complaining to Nissan as even now this car has been detailed... I hold out little hope it will stay swirl free past its first wash.... which is a shame as freshly detailed the colour looks amazing!

Car was dropped off last week and washed, clayed, de tar'd etc. Polishing wasn't difficult as such with the soft paint. All the defects came out with 1 - 3 hits of Menzerna 106FA (a mild finishing polish for those who are not familiar with the numbers), I just needed to make sure they were fully broken down and the pad was not worked at any kind of angle at all otherwise I was left with buffer trails everywhere on the soft paint.

With correction going well I thought I would try applying some Blackfire sealant to a panel by hand on a new, clean, moistened megs applicator pad.... not exactly a hard, rough, scratchy pad! Sure enough exactly what I was worried about had happened and I was left with very fine marring lines after removing the sealant.

Panel was re polished and then sealant re applied by megs G220 DA machine on a 3m black finishing pad. This seemed to work better but again highlights how sensitive this paint is!!

3 coats were applied in all over the 7 days I had the car. Wheels and Exhausts were sealed with blackfire metal sealant and tyres were dressed with blackfire tyre get. Interior detailed and leather conditioned, engine cleaned and dressed, glass cleaned and one of the most frustrating jobs ever was finished. 35hrs working time.

Hi Nathan, just a quick question.....

You say above "I would try applying some Blackfire sealant to a panel by hand on a new, clean, moistened megs applicator pad.... "

Would you always reccommend getting the pad a little wet before applying the sealant? (just be handy to know for when I do mine again at the weekend)

Cheers. And great work by the way, I love reading all about it

what i usually do if its a new pad.. as they can sometimes be a bit dry i feel.. I apply more product than usual the first time and squeeze the pad together to distribute the product over the whole surface... maybe even use your finger to spread it around for the first time too before touching it to the cars paint.

On most cars it wont make a huge difference but i was being extra careful with this one as I was worried it would mark.... and it did.. despite my careful efforts!

After the butter soft paint of the GTR last week, this weeks major correction was rather different. Rock hard Lamborghini paint.

hXjuzvTajxg

The car was actually washed last week when I detailed the silver GT3 and has not been moved since

Before washing

DSC_1518.jpg

During the foam pre wash

DSC_1519.jpg

The car was then given the usual clay bar treatment and then any tar was removed with AS tardis.

Polishing was with a combination of 3m fast cut plus, Menzerna IP3.02, Menzerna 106FA on either 3m cutting or polishing pads, Meguairs polishing pad or Gloss it spot cutting and polishing pads.

Some before and after shots.

With the polishing complete 2 layers of Vintage wax were applied and the wheels sealed with Blackfire metal sealant and tyres dressed with Blackfire tyre gel. Exhausts were polished and sealed. The interior was cleaned and all leather was conditioned. Glass polished in and out.

Hello.

Just a very short write up with a few cars I have worked on recently. Been pretty busy but with top up jobs and a few enhancement details that were not photographed unfortunately.

I got a call about this DBS though from Aston Martin in Cambridge who said their bodyshop guys had tried to polish it but not been able to achieve a finish that the customer was happy with so could I have a go.

Due to time constraints (started at 7:30 and finished at 5:45 with no breaks or lunch) there are no fancy before and after photos or videos I'm afraid.

The paint was storm black which is about £1000 a litre due to a special mineral to give the red metalic fleck.

Polishes used were Menzerna 106FA and ip3.02 on 3m polishing or finishing pads. The car was finished with Blackfire paint sealant.

You may spot the new Rapide in the background. There was an open day on the saturday for the new car and the garage had borrowed a couple of show cars to make the showroom look nice.

x2_f4422f

They actually unloaded this at the back of the carpark and then couldn't get it over the speed bump so had to re load it and bring it nearer to the showroom

Also recently detailed and not posted up....
